Searching for success and not getting it soon enough, (remember we are an instant society with instant coffee and instant tea), puts us under enormous pressure to succeed and perform. So we often forget who and what we are. The result is that we follow the latest fads and the latest success techniques, bandied about by the so-called gurus who promise you overnight success if you buy their products and follow their formula. For way too many this doesn't work. Here is a case in point. When she started her campaign for the Democratic Party nomination Hillary Clinton thought if she just followed all the advice given to her by her advisors, which include the former advisors of her husband, former president Clinton. Unfortunately, it didn't work. The voters were not doing what they were supposed to do, automatically voting for Hillary. They were attracted to the candidate who spoke with a passion, from his heart. With her back against the wall as the poll numbers started to predict an Obama victory, Hillary realized that the time for pretend was over and started to show more of the real Hillary Clinton. And as they say the rest is history. Within a less than 24 hour period, the voters responded and Hillary Clinton averted, what would most likely have been a devastating loss into a sweet victory. Here is another case in point. The album that turned Usher Raymond into a superstar is entitled \"Confessions.\" if you listen to this album you'll hear that it is a very personal album. Before he worked on this album Usher had a number of albums and worked with a number of producers including Jermaine Dupri and P Diddy. However, none of these collaborations gave him the type of success he so craved. It was at this time that someone suggested that he do an album that reveals more of him. The result is the 2004 album, Confessions, which sold 1.1 million copies in the United States in its first week of release, setting a record for the most number of records sold in 1 week for an R&B artist. Here is Usher in his own words during an interview he gave: \"I always felt like I held something back on my albums - on every album, I was playing a 'role'. This time, I decided to shake my fears and allow my personality to come through. I've really 'lived' this album: I'm in a healthy place right now. I'm 25-years old and I'm dealing with my responsibilities as a man and I'm not afraid to speak, to be realistic and talk about the issues men deal with [in relationships].\" We are often afraid to be ourselves because we are afraid that we'll be judged and looked down upon. The truth is that most people who do this, open up and be themselves, find it to be a freeing experience. They discover that people actually love what they see and hear. So go ahead and be yourself, you have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
