What You Should Know About Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation method is used to increase the size of the lips. This surgical procedure is being used world wide to enhance the beauty of lips. The upper and lower lip is treated alone in this method. The size of lips is changed by injecting collagen in the lips. The methods of lip augmentation are both temporary and permanent.
The most common material which is injected in the lips is known as collagen. The collagen is obtained form the skin of the cow. The collagen obtained from the cows is purified in the laboratory. Collagen injections can cause allergy in some people. Before the cosmetic procedure a collagen sensitivity test should be performed on the patient. Collagen is injected in the dermal layer of the skin with the help of small needles. Collagen injection does not give long lasting results as after some time implant is absorbed by the body.
Some physicians choose fat as an implant for the lips. Fat is harvested from another parts of the body and purified before injecting. Fat injections never cause allergic reactions as it is a human product. Some more form of injections which are used in this procedure are artecoll injections, autologen injections, dermalogen injections, fascia injections, hylaform injections and restylane injections. The recovery period is very short and depends on the method of surgery. For faster recovery patient should apply ice packs on the lips. Patient should not eat any thing first in 48 hours of post operative period. Patient is not allowed to smile and laugh for some hours after the procedure.
