When Opportunity Knocks- 5 Things to Know When you Get Stuck

Have you ever played the game “slug bug”? It’s not until you’re playing the game that you realize “slug bugs” have always been around you. Before the game you’re stuck…begin to play and the opportunities (slug bugs) present themselves.

Sometimes we get stuck and feel that we are going to stay that way. Yes, there will be lulls from time to time but these lulls don’t have to last long. If you do happen to get stuck keep these 5 things in mind:

1. Opportunities will come. Count on them. Despite what your mind will tell you when you feel stuck, opportunities are all around you. Look throughout your life and you may remember all the times that opportunities came up and especially when you least expected them… there are more to come. Don’t forget that you don’t have to wait for opportunities, you can make them too!

2. Be open-minded. When opportunity knocks you have to be willing to adjust to it. That means learning new information, brainstorming, generating possible solutions, and the willingness to learn from others. No opportunity is the same and that means you have to fit to it because it probably will not fit to you.

3. Follow what excites you. Make sure that you feel good doing what you are doing. Get excited about the challenges of the new opportunity. However, if it doesn’t feel good doing it then you probably will not do it for a long period of time. In order to do something well it takes time to learn and develop the skills to master it. So, if you are doing something you don’t like doing then you probably will not do it for long.

4. The opportunity must meet your goal. While knowing when the opportunities will come is difficult, knowing if the opportunities will meet your goal is easy. If you would like to make $100,000 a year and the opportunity allows for $10,000 year then maybe it’s not the right for you. You don’t have to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.

5. You will flourish. As long as you remain persistent you cannot help but get better and grow. Take action everyday not just once in a while. Just because you are a deliberate creators doesn’t mean that you don’t have to do something every day to reach your goals. Keep going, keep learning, keep trying different ways, keep asking, keep meeting new people, and most of all break your own glass ceiling.

When you get stuck nothing would beat winning the lottery or inventing the next ShamWow. But if you keep these five things in mind when you get stuck you will have a better chance of seeing opportunities and taking advantage of them every chance you can.
