Where to Go to Treat Panic Attacks
Written by Jason Albany
A person is likely to become extremely fearful after experiencing a panic attack. Often, the individual feels as though he is dying, thinking that he is having a heart attack since his chest is tight and his heart is pounding out of control. Sometimes, the bowels can act erratically and cause the person to visit the toilet often, making them think there is something physically wrong. Other symptoms may include lack of breath, cramps in leg or arm muscles, sweating a lot. If these sorts of things are happening to you, you are strongly advised to seek help, do not think that you are going crazy and hide it from all other people. Without help, the symptoms often escalate, leaving the person unable to function in his day to day life.
Getting Help
One treatment may prove extremely beneficial to one person but be of no use to another, as each individual is different. However, there are some treatments that have proven to be the best treatment for panic attacks for most individuals who suffer from them.
One of the best treatments for panic attacks is to go to a therapist. Most therapists will attempt to determine what has sparked these panic attacks, the root cause. Often, the individual will have to take a look back into childhood events if he cannot pinpoint for himself what the triggering event is for the panic attack. Finding the cause is the first step, then the therapist will work with the patient to de-construct the event, which allows them to see exactly how their life has been affected by the past event. This is great for many people as it really makes the whole condition less frightening, because of the understanding, which results from the de-construction process.
As well as the de-construction process, there are other techniques to learn in order to help relax and deal with panic attacks more easily. Relaxation techniques are a very effective treatment for panic attacks because they can even help the person learn to calm himself down before the attack ever happens. The person learns to breathe properly, through his diaphragm in deep breaths, which helps him to focus on the breathing rather than on the anxiety in his body. The full blown panic can be kept from developing by slowing down the rise of anxiety.
