Easter is a time of renewal. You spend the winter and Lent fasting, praying and remembering darkness. In the North, you experience cold, dreary weather that keep you indoors. But, then, spring comes with long days, warm sunshine and flowers blooming. You feel alive and renewed. Easter is day when you celebrate life over death. That’s why Easter is a perfect time to show off a new you, especially new teeth. You can get your teeth whitened in time for Easter. Why Do You Want to Whiten Your Teeth? The foods we eat and the beverages we drink will cause your teeth to discolor. Other reasons why your teeth change colors are genetics, aging, smoking, antibiotics and medicines, too much fluoride, and old fillings. Many people do not have self-confidence when they look at themselves in the mirror and see discolored teeth. They also are embarrassed by the their looks and feel ashamed. Whitening your teeth can improve the looks of patients who have more self-esteem and self-confidence. Easter is a time you want self-esteem and self-confidence. What Is the Procedure? If your dentist provides customized trays, you will come into the office to be fit and given trays and solution. You put the solution in the trays and apply the trays according to directions for 10 to 14 days. After that time, you will see a difference in two to five shades brighter. The solution uses hydrogen peroxide and changes the chemical makeup of carbamide peroxide. Some dentists prefer a laser whitening system. This is completed in one day. Dentists perform teeth whitening by using laser whitening after he or she applies a 35 percent hydrogen peroxide solution on your teeth. Once this solution is on the teeth, a light shines on your teeth to accelerate the chemical reaction of the hydrogen peroxide. Regardless of the procedure used, the effectiveness is the same. And, you will have to visit the dentist every three to six months to have your teeth whitened again due to everyday habits, such as drinking dark beverages. What Should You Consider? Although most dentists say that over-the-counter teeth whitening products are not as effective, you could get some results from these products. These are some considerations you need to make when looking at them. Product Effectiveness -- Do your research. Some are more effective than others. Patient Satisfaction -- If people aren’t happy with the results, why use those products? Freshness -- Like medicines, dental products have a shelf life and an expiration date. Don’t use anything that is old. Cost -- If the over-the-counter remedy costs more than the dentist, don’t use it. To have your teeth whitened correctly and with as little inconvenience as possible, you should visit your dentist. Explain that you are looking for whiter teeth in time for Easter.
