Whenever I discuss my practice I always mention the Divine Ones which consist of the Creator, Ancestors, Angels, Deities, and the Orishas. They all hold a special power and responsibility in my life and in your life as well, but in order to receive their knowledge, you must communicate with them on a daily basis. Whether you want to accept it or not spirits are all around you, all day and every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s dark outside or daylight, they are here among us walking with us in our daily lives.
Now, who are the Ancestors? The Ancestors are those who have walked this
Earth before you. They may be in your family bloodline, a community ancestor like Malcolm X and Nina Simone, and/or your spiritual ancestor which comes from your African roots. These spirit guides know how to guide you in this world because they were here before centuries ago. They want to help guide you from repeating past mistakes and give insight on the things you cannot foresee.
They assist you with your family history and ancient practices that no one may have practiced for years. I’m actually experiencing it that right now. I am the only one who practice this craft in my family and it’s been this way for the past 100 years. I was chosen to bring this practice back to into existence and pass it on to generations to come. I receive messages through meditation how to perform certain rituals. They tell me what candles to use and how many. What to ask for and how to ask? Things that no one would be able to assist me with because they don’t know, so this communication is important.
Your ancestors communicate with you more so when it comes down to family practices and on a personal level. They help you discover your talents on this physical world. Your creativity and your strengths that make you who you are today. They show you where you come from, the power you possess, and how to use that power. They provide you with knowledge about your roots and the warriors, kings, queens, and spiritualist who have contributed to your generational wealth and wisdom today.
You may speak to the Ancestors telepathically once you begin to learn how to hear the voices within and you may also use divination tools to help guide you understand their messages more clearly. There is nothing to fear when communicating with your ancestors because they are family. I would suggest that in the beginning of your practices you call upon all that is good, righteous, and holy so that there is no doubt in your heart and you know for sure you are around good energy.
It is not necessary to dedicate an altar to them. You may simply pray or meditate for now in front of your existing altar or just in private. You may use items or objects passed down for energy to attract them as well. Though family members who have just passed away may be one of your spirit guides, the ancestors are people who have transitioned centuries ago. Take time today to communicate with your ancestors. They are waiting for your acknowledgement and the opportunity to pass their wisdom down to you.
