Who Gets Saved If a Meteor Hits Earth? Conspiracy Theory

They say Man plans; God laughs. I am pretty sure it could also read Man plans; the Government laughs.

I just finished watching one of my favorite shows: Jesse Ventura; conspiracy Theories. He just did a great show about the possibility of a giant asteroid or meteor hitting earth and destroying civilization as we know it.
The show went on and on about the underground bunkers that have been built by our government all over the United States. Then, of course, comes the question. Who gets to go to those bunkers? Really; you don’t expect them to make enough for all of us do you? It just ain’t happening.
The theory has been espoused for years and we are just sitting here like sitting ducks waiting to be hit.
I can remember the days of fright during the early 50’s. At school we regularly had “duck and cover” exercises because we were so afraid of being hit by an atomic bomb. Like the 3 inch top of a desk was going to save a child; NOT! Some of us had fathers that used all the family money to build a fallout shelter. Near our town, the old Civil War bunkers were made into fallout shelters for those of us who lived nearby. It was difficult to grow up during those days but we managed. We were always scared, though. We were also smart enough to know that most of us would be considered collateral damage. The government could not afford to save everyone in the United States in the 1950s so what on earth makes us think they would try to save all of us now?
So, I am sitting at my computer (my husband thinks I spend more time with it tha
I do him) and up pops an article about the possibility of an asteroid direct hit. Of course, being nosey, I read it. It says the government has decided to try to draw up some plans just “in case”. These plans are supposed to be in the hands of NASA.
According to the words of a top science advisor, the white house has the National Aeronautics and Space Administration working on plans right this minute. That should definitely make you feel safer. I am sure you will have a dreamless sleep tonight. I will insert a quote I poached from the article here so you can see just how safe we are.
John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, or OSTP, outlines plans for "(A) protecting the United States from a near-Earth object that is expected to collide with Earth; and (B) implementing a deflection campaign, in consultation with international bodies, should one be necessary."
Okay, feel better now? One of my main questions is: if this is really happening, why now. The article states there is not a current threat on the horizon. So, why do this now? It isn’t as if the threat rumor hasn’t been going on for awhile. If it is all just a theory, why bother? We really don’t have a lot of money to be throwing around these days; why start spending what we don’t have on this?

As conspiracy theories go, I can say that the government is always on the wrong side. That is what makes it so interesting, I guess. Think of all of the suspense books out these days. They are filled with government cover ups, etc.

I can’t help but remember an old family friend of ours. He was a happy little man who dressed in dapper outfits that always made everyone smile. His family was like part of ours. His son died of leukemia in his early 20’s. The only child left was his daughter. He was really proud of her. She was sort of a mathematical genius. It was the joy of our little town to have someone so smart be one of ours. What makes me think of him now is that he always told people that his daughter worked for NASA. I think everyone really believed it, too. She was a friend of mine so I knew she actually worked for the NSA. She was one of their top analysts. I guess saying she worked at NASA was just semantics, in a way but what if it also applies here. What if the department of government that is working on things is really the NSA and not NASA? Won’t that make the conspiracy theory much more intense?

The thing about theories is that you can’t solve them until it is too late. But if this one has any truth to it at all, you have got to be wondering if you are going to be ½ of a pair that’s allowed onto the ark.
