The iPad is a great device and the use of iPad apps is literally going through the roof. The man on the street will be forgiven for thinking that all apps for the iPad are popular and every app is downloaded eagerly by its target users. But, unfortunately this is not the case. Not all apps that are built for the iPad scale the popularity charts, and while many succeed, there are plenty of others that bite the dust. So, what is it that results in their failure? There is no dearth of eager iPhone app developer who is also experts in iPad app development, and who leave no stone unturned to develop cutting edge apps. So why do even the most unique and advanced iPad apps still test failure? Let’s take a look at few of the reasons that can answer this question: Lack of proper groundwork Is the app relevant? Does it address a particular need of the end user? Is it a problem solver? These are just some of the questions that need to be answered before all mobile applications are taken through the process of development. This is why developers and clients alike have to conduct a proper groundwork when it comes to knowing the needs of their target market. This allows them to identify an app concept that can make a difference to the lives of their target users. It is such apps that become popular. But, lack of proper groundwork and identifying a concept in haphazard fashion, never helps reap rich dividends. Inability to Focus on Usability Even the best iPad app developers fall into the trap of making their app more complex than is actually necessary. They go overboard in trying to make their app more sophisticated, replete with only the most advanced features. What they fail to understand, is that the complex nature of an app that can put off the target users. This is why the focus of the application should be on its simplicity. The user should be able to understand the app fundamental without making an effort for the same. More importantly, it is only a simple app, which ensures an app that is extremely usable, whose use can be optimized by the target user. This leads to app success and its popularity. Zero Hype Look up any of the iPad apps that are scaling the popularity charts. Forget about their features and purpose for a second and take a closer look at their promotion. You will find that in most cases, hype was created around the impending release of the app. This accomplished two things – It told the target audience that there was a particular app releasing that will offer certain functionalities and it also created a buzz for that app before the release. This ensured that its target audience actually had a look at the app to see what the hype was all about. This is why the functions and features are evaluated by the target users to check whether the hype was worth it. If an app has no hype or buzz surrounding it during pre-launch, it becomes very difficult to create an impression on the minds of the target user’s post- launch. This is why even some amazing apps fail to become popular.
