Most of the people in the U.S. have graduated from high schools, but some may have been frustrated or hated some and wondered to themselves, “Why is high school so important?” They may hate it and wonder the reasons why it exists or why they can’t just study at home.rnSome kid may have only attended high schools because the law says that it is something they must do, at least to a certain age. However, in reality, high schools are places that are vital to our children for several reasons. What is valuable about high schools? For one thing, high schools are places that help to get people ready to function in the adult world. It not only gives you the lessons in the form of your classes, but it helps you to get the experience you need in learning everyday skills too. Skills like how to listen, how to interact with other people, how to balance your checkbook or bank accounts, and how to process and use the information you get on a daily basis for far more than just an English or History lesson from a book.rnHigh schools are also places where children grow into young adults and learn how to grow up both mentally and emotionally in a sheltered environment. Without this form of schooling, many young adults would just be thrown into the business or work world and not have any sort of coping skills. It has been shown that those who did not attend high schools sometimes are unable to find their niche because they don’t know how to deal with other people. High schools are vital to future job employmentrnPlus, more than half of the jobs available require at least a high school diploma. In addition, some statistics say that people who don’t have a high school diploma are likely to end up on welfare, or even in jail. It is thought that this is due to many reasons, some of which is an inability to cope since they didn’t learn it during high school. This may seem drastic, but it shows just how vitally important high schools can be for people to get a good start in life.rnGoing to high schools is important to a future job because it shows the prospective employer that you are able to fit into a structured environment, and if you did well in things like doing homework or fitting in with others, it also shows that you would be a good team player and member of a group. This gives employers confidence that you can fit into their situations as well since you were able to adapt to a high school one. Why is Education Important? Education is something people get at all high schools as you most likely understand. But in some ways, education is more than book learning and a large part of the importance of high schools is this fact. Education teaches people about the world they live in and going to high schools exposes people to different types of people that they will have to learn to deal with in the “real world.” This means that when people attend high schools, they are not only learning the subject matter in their books and from their teachers, they are learning how to be a citizen of their own home environment in society. It is a place to learn things like manners, and civilized actions that help us to succeed in the work force and in life in general. If someone was isolated their whole lives and merely learned the same book knowledge as a high school attendee, but never got to interact with other people, then they would most likely be afraid and unable to function in society because they wouldn’t know the accepted norms of everyday life that they are exposed to while going to high schools. How can parents help high school students? Parents are a big factor in helping their children to understand the importance of high schools in many ways. There are many pressures regarding attending high schools since children are likely going through adolescence and transitioning and that brings its own problems to deal with. If parents understand this and are able to help their kids to do the same, it can make their attendance to high schools go more smoothly. It is a good idea, for example, that parents and kids work together to help organize the student’s assignments, class schedules, etc so they can better use their high school experience to get ahead in the world. This teaches them the organizational skills they will need after high school graduation occurs. High School classes teach basics needed to do jobs Then, of course high schools teach us the basics in various book skills such as math (which is needed in everything from buying groceries and paying the rent to balancing the bank account or making sure you are not cheated in finance dealings with others), English (being able to read, write, etc is vital in our technological world), science (for instance knowing what chemicals are poisonous so you don’t eat them, or things like not mixing bleach and ammonia because it is dangerous, etc) and other topics. High schools give kids the basics so they can move on into college and get more advanced training in the topics that they are interested in or that they need to succeed in their jobs. Without this background, they would find it hard to start into any sort of advanced program, so getting the basics ahead of time is very important and this is the goal of most high schools. All in all, high schools are definitely a vital institution that young people need to attend in order to get the basic book skills and society type of skills so that they can cope with the adult world, do well in their prospective jobs and do well when interacting with other people.
