Women and Aging: Growing Older with Grace and Style

Women and aging has always been a difficult conversation. Baby boomer women are starting to reach their mid sixties. For some, it has meant burying their heads in the sand of denial. For others it has meant a descent into despair. With the body, age is inevitable, but that doesn’t have to be a negative.
In groups of friends and on the Internet, women are coming together to discuss body aging and the self-image that results. They want techniques and motivation to age with dignity and style. They want to discuss the challenges of getting older in a world that values youth and beauty. The challenge is to help women embrace their aging bodies.
Having a positive attitude about aging is the first key. When you consider the alte
ative, aging isn't so bad. With a positive attitude comes acceptance. We've been trained not to age. But, it goes against nature. Everything on the planet is aging, why shouldn't we? You can always look your best and should, regardless of your age.
What are can you do to start the shift to accepting you aging body?
Start to visualize how you want to age. In your visualization, see yourself having vitality and staying connected.
Second, create a collage, painting or sculpture describing what growing older feels like from the inside. When complete, write about the positives as well as the fears and anxiety of growing older.
Women and aging is a difficult topic. But, it doesn’t have to be a time of despair. Growing older can be a time of renewal and reconnecting to yourself and the world around you. It's a time to embrace interesting activities, connect spiritually and to those you care about.
