I am sure that you have used many techniques that are used in order to lose weight. Out of these techniques you may have tried many, and found that some work better than others. One technique that may help you lose weight is to write in a journal. Taking time out everyday to write about your experience with food can help you lose weight in many ways.

One way that you can get started is to find a list of thought-provoking questions regarding health and weight loss. Every couple of days, pick one question and journal your thoughts about it. Take your time and really think about the answer. Allow yourself to enter into an emotional state. This is where you can begin to write your true emotions. The answers you come up with can help you process where you are in building a healthy relationship between food and yourself.

Another way to use a journal to lose weight is a food specific journal. If you are attempting to lose weight and have also struggled with an eating disorder, this is a great technique. By writing about your experiences with food, you can begin to disce
between emotional eating and hunger. To do this, write down your thoughts about the foods that you eat throughout the day. Sometimes we may even feel guilty about the foods that we eat. This is a good time to examine how your relationship with food is improving.

If you are ever feeling the need to engage in emotional eating, writing in a journal can help you reduce those behaviors. Typically when you overeat there is an emotional event behind it. Write about the event that happened. Allow your feelings about the event be processed on paper instead of through food. Even if you did not feel like emotionally eating, writing is a great way to process events that happen throughout the day.

Writing in a journal is a great way to begin tracking your weight loss progress. You could write about the different techniques that you have tried. Write about how they made you feel and rate yourself on your ability to assimilate them into your lifestyle. Track how well you are doing with listening to your body. If you mess up one day- it's okay! Write about the events leading up to your overeating. Learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward toward weight loss.
