You Are a Work In Progress
Written by Dr. Robert Anthony
How are you living? How do you treat yourself? Do you keep your promises you make to yourself? Do you use positive self-talk? Do you feel as though you are your Authentic Self most of the time, or are you living a dual life? Behaving as you believe others want you to?
Let’s say that one of your very close friends treated you in the manner in which you treat yourself. Would you consider that friend to be kind, supportive, encouraging? If we’re being honest with ourselves, we probably don’t treat ourselves as kindly or as respectfully as we should. If other people in our lives treated us the way we treat ourselves, would they be friends we would keep? Or would we recognize their sabotaging words, negative talk, and say “good riddance?”
Fear is Just a Form of Resistance
Many times we are our own worst enemy. Sometimes, in our personal development journey we feel afraid of looking too deeply inside ourselves, for fear we won’t like who we see. Fear is caused by resistance. Fear is caused when we misunderstand the truth.
Try to avoid getting caught up in the beliefs you have about who you should be. Instead, see yourself as the person that you truly are, and the person you would like to be.
Think about a construction site: a building site for a home that’s still being built. You wouldn’t condemn the house for being unfinished. You understand that it’s a process, building this dwelling takes time, and it happens in stages. And so it is with you, on your personal development journey. It’s a process. And of course, whatever your present circumstances, you need more construction. Be patient with yourself during this process, but begin taking conscious inspired action to do the work that needs to be done.
Keep in mind that everything that you learn about yourself is the beginning of a strength. Anything that you learn about yourself, is good information. When a personal truth comes up for you that you wish to change, remember that a wise person will give up a piece of coal in exchange for a precious diamond. You have the unique talents and abilities to create your life in any way you wish.
Your Personal Development is Yours Alone
It isn’t necessary for you to get permission from others in your life to begin making changes – your life and your journey belongs only to you. Some folks in your life may become uncomfortable with the changes you make, because they are committed to their own path, which is unique to them. You have no need to deny yourself because of the belief systems of others. Your personal development is about you.
We can’t be all things to all people, in fact in trying to do so, you’ll end up scattered, moving in a million directions at once, unable to focus on your own journey. Treat yourself and your desires as a priority. You can only manifest your desires when you allow yourself to focus on them.
Conscious Guidance is Available Whenever You Want It
You can expect that you will make mistakes in life, and there is no reason to hold on to these mistakes. Your life is in a constant state of change, and any setbacks are temporary. Your Higher Self, your Authentic Self, is a resource that you can consciously tap into any time you wish for guidance or assistance on your personal development journey.
