You Can Be the Invention of the Year in 2012
Written by Sarah Hathorn, AICI CIP, CPBS
Why not make yourself the invention of the year in 2012? I urge and challenge you to renew and recreate yourself in a way that capitalizes on your talents and ambitions while it unearths a new you.
One time I did that by walking away from an enviable corporate position and stepping out into the great unknown to follow my dream of being an independent entrepreneur. Looking back I only wish I had been able to do it sooner, because it was one of the most rewarding transitions of my lifetime.
What vision comes to mind when you picture your dreams? If you have always wanted to live abroad then maybe this is the year for you to accept an overseas assignment. Perhaps it is time for you to redesign your career in a way that lets you express more creativity or have greater influence over the direction of your organization or industry. Every month I hear from people who are successful, but dissatisfied. I talk to leaders who are powerful, but not as persuasive as they would like to be. I meet with clients who are brilliant and talented, but hunger for a different kind of experience that will take them into more exciting territory as a person. They seek a dynamic new synergy between their personal passions and their professional expertise.
Who do you want to be in 2012? Where do you want to see yourself this time next year? The world is your oyster, and you can be whoever you want to be so why not pry it open? You might discover that rare pearl and be the biggest invention of the year. But you will only know by leaping beyond your old self and into a realm that is new, thrilling, invigorating, and wonderful.
