Zen is a form of meditation with focusing on the mindful awareness of the present moment. The phrase “being Zen” or “having a Zen attitude” has come to mean viewing life calmly with self-control. Zen is the harmonious state of the mind, body, and soul. It can help you relax, have a positive outlook on life, and find a higher plane of spiritual self.
Lastone therapy“Zen” originated from the Japanese, however has also been known to have been altered and influence by the Chinese, Islamic and Buddhists. That being said, you can imagine how each culture has influenced the interpretation of Zen-like non-activity.
As humans, we filter all our experiences through our perceptions. Zen means waking up to the present moment and seeing things exactly as they are without our interference. We are too busy experiencing our own subjective version of existence to be in a Zen-like state. Zen is actually a state of non-being, where we are simply processing the present without action or reaction.
To actually define Zen is quite difficult. When we try to define this state of non-being we try to limit it, making it a neat conceptual package that only gives us part of the picture.
Practical Zen enlarges our awareness of the here and now. Being, or non-being, in the present moment. Practicing that stillness within will bring an awareness of your roll in the grand scheme of the universe, and help you to become aware of the importance of letting go of the temporal.
The world that we live in encourages the progression of the logical, scientific mind. However, man has lost touch with his essential humanity. Zen works to bridge this gap and restore a greater level of awareness of all within and around us.
I recommend sitting in silence – under a nice big tree would be ideal. Or, try sitting near water, or element that brings about a sense of peace and tranquility. As you begin an attempt at non—being, don’t worry if you find that stilling your mind seems impossible. The more you sit in this state of grace, the sooner you will have trained your subconscious mind be silent. No special tools are necessary, just sit, stand or walk, being that one with everything around you.

Telephone Call from Mama from the Spirit World.
My mother died suddenly October 20, 1987, at the age of 67 from a heart attack. Earlier that year she had told me about health problems she had experienced, and I told her that I believed she had suffered a heart attack and needed to see a medical doctor. “No,” she said, “They’ll just pick on my weight and I just don’t want to stop eating because it’s the only thing that makes me happy.” I knew that my mother was a very unhappy person, and I couldn’t argue with what she had stated. She had expressed for several years that she really wanted to die because she was so unhappy.
