My name is Alan and I hope I can help you to be as happy and grateful as I have become. I wasn’t always this way as I spent many years being depressed and miserable. I believe that most anyone can be happy, if they have the desire and willingness necessary to change. I have wished that I could share my experiences with others, so that they may find the same type of peace, happiness and contentment that I have attained. Hence… www.happinesshelp.org.

I am not a doctor or mental health professional. My views and insights are a result of almost twenty years of intensive spiritual, religious and psychological training and practice. Becoming happy is not necessarily an ove ight matter, so be diligent and patient. Some will experience results more quickly than others. I personally experienced a gradual progression towards happiness. This may take some time so stick with it! You may be the last to notice how much you’ve changed. Don’t quit before the miracle happens.

I wish you peace and happiness.

Have you ever wondered if venting was a useful way to release your emotions? Simply put, is venting good for you? I guess that depends on what you mean by venting. If by venting you mean screaming, yelling, ranting or raving about your problems, feelings and emotions with anger, then no, venting is not good. Maybe you’re saying to yourself, “yea, but releasing my emotions that way is necessary, if I keep them bottled up inside, I’ll explode one day.” That would be an understandable way to think, but not a wise one.

Thoughts, for the most part, are conditioned and can be changed. Although blaming the way we think on our parents and how we were raised may in fact be accurate, as adults, it is our responsibility to change the way we think. Our thought processes can be changed through awareness and effort, which is a typical combination for any change. From my personal experience, this is a gradual process, so don’t get discouraged if the change comes slowly. It took years to develop our present thought processes and it will probably take years to change them.

We possess an ability to observe what is happening in our own body and mind. Whether this observer is in our minds or somehow separate, it can observe the mind itself. There are our thoughts and that which is aware of our thoughts. There are our feelings and that which is aware of our feelings. There are our mental, emotional and physical reactions and that which is aware of these reactions. It is in this awareness that we can find peace. So then, the observer or knower is aware or depending on how you look at it, the awareness observes or knows.

Have you ever gone outside at night and looked up at the moon and stars and realized just how small you really are? It’s almost a feeling of insignificance but it’s not related to low self-esteem. This realization, this feeling of being small, immediately diminishes our self-importance leaving us with a feeling of peace.

So, are you too miserable to be happy? This may sound funny to some but I’m guessing that there are people out there who understand this all too well. There are times that you may be in a state of such tremendous negativity that it’s almost impossible for anyone or anything to positively influence you. Can anyone relate to this? So, what can we do to help ourselves during times of such misery and negativity? The first thing we can do is to realize that “this too shall pass”.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Alan A

I cannot take credit for the following quote but I heard it said many years ago and find it extremely helpful.

• "If you want to feel good, don't do things that make you feel bad"

I think these are mine :-)

• If you want to change, you have to change.

• I have come to learn that peace and happiness come from accepting life the way it is.

I believe that peace and happiness are achieved through certain spiritual and psychological principles and that these principles must be practiced in our lives. Please do not mistake spirituality for religion although they can be related.

We cannot expect to read one book or attend one seminar and expect our lives to change much. We need to practice such principles regularly in order to maintain our spiritual and psychological conditions. From my personal experience and from witnessing many others transform their lives, the rewards are more than worth the effort.
