Ali Brown Biography

Ali Brown, a native of Fairfield County, Conn., cut her teeth in marketing in her early 20s, starting as an account assistant at Mosby Consumer Health in Boston and working her way up to head the new publishing division at The Benjamin Group advertising agency in New York.

Desiring creative freedom and financial independence, Ali became a freelance marketing communications writer in 1999. Starting with only a dial-up Internet connection, a personal computer, and her basic writing skills, Ali built a thriving practice, eventually attracting prestigious clients such as New York Times Digital, Adweek Magazine, Scholastic Books, and Dun & Bradstreet.

In 2001, she started publishing her first email newsletter, or “ezine,” to help market her business. It worked well to gain her clients, so she authored an e-book titled “Boost Business with Your Own E-zine.” Ali sold it on her website, and it won several International APEX Awards. Based on its success, she then created dozens of additional courses and products sold online to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses and profit.

Today, Ali is the inspirational driving force behind a rapidly expanding multimillion-dollar empire that includes Ali Magazine, Ali Boutique, the Millionaire Protégé Club, and SHINE.

The highly successful Ali Magazine is a unique blend of business, beauty, life, and style coverage for the female entrepreneur; the Ali Boutique is an innovative bricks-and-mortar and online retail concept that marries business and glamour.

One of Ali’s greatest joys is coaching budding entrepreneurs. She designed the Millionaire Protégé Club to be the world’s premier coaching club for those who would like to grow their businesses, or those who are ready to leave corporate jobs and become entrepreneurs.

Ali’s annual live event SHINE is designed to inspire entrepreneurs to think creatively about marketing, and to take the smart risks that allow their businesses to thrive no matter what state the economy is in. Ali provides hands-on exercises and personal coaching at each of her events, where she has interviewed numerous inspiring women including real estate mogul and star of ABC’s Shark Tank, Barbara Corcoran, Baby Einstein founder Julie Clark and Academy Award® winning actress Marlee Matlin.

Over the years, Ali has cultivated a large and loyal following, with nearly 40,000 fans subscribing to her weekly ezine. When she’s not traveling the world for speaking engagements or media appearances, Ali runs her business from her beachside home. Her success has caught the attention of Inc. Magazine, which placed her on their list of the 500 fastest-growing companies in the nation in 2009. Additionally, Ali has been interviewed on the E! network as well as numerous NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, and CW network affiliates.

Ali believes that philanthropy goes hand-in-hand with success. Her next project will be forming a foundation to empower underprivileged girls to achieve their dreams through entrepreneurship.

One of the benefits of a home office is never having to wear a scratchy wool suit or pantyhose (unless you want to). The danger is that it’s easy to let that professional image slide if you spend the workday sitting on your couch wearing yoga pants and channel surfing in between conference calls. Follow these tips to maintain a professional image while working at home: Stick to a schedule. True, working from home allows you to set your own schedule and gives you the flexibility to travel, take care of children, or otherwise tend to your personal life.

Most business owners are good at pitching clients or reaching out to new customers. It’s the follow-up where they fall down. Why? Because they figure, “if they wanted my product, they’d finish the transaction,” or they worry that, “if I bug them too much, I’ll come off as needy.” Here’s the thing: while you’re worrying about bugging a prospective customer or telling yourself that maybe “they’re just not that into me,” someone else is following up and sealing the deal!

Sara Blakely, founder of the super-slimming undergarment giant Spanx, might never have created a multi-million dollar global empire if it had not been for her butt. Frustrated by nature’s imperfections, visible panty lines, and uncomfortable thongs, she set about creating a revolutionary brand that has transformed female body shapes. Like many women, her body was turning against her. Gravity was taking hold, her thighs were expanding, and cellulite was puckering her once smooth skin.
