In feudal times, the wealth of the nobility was nearly always unea ed, and the poor had a negligible likelihood of ever improving their lot. It is often overlooked that the rise of capitalism was part of the Enlightenment's agenda of bringing prosperity and well-being to everyone. And although it is far from perfect, although it can certainly be abused by corporate greed, Ponzi schemes, and so forth, it is still far more promising than any other economic system so far devised.

Millions of Americans have been persuaded rhetoric that the purpose of education is to prepare our children to score well on standardized tests so that we can have more well-trained workers. As the standardsmovement gets stronger, we convince ourselves that being a useful employee is the only key to a happy and successful life.

(1) Keeping a Spiritual journal is a wonderful way to record your ideas, break through mental barriers, clarify your thoughts, refine your goals, express your creativity, and provide an open channel for new feelings and intuitions to flow freely. You may want to place a Title on the cover and write a short dedication (perhaps a sentence or two, or a prayer, or a favorite quote or sacred poem) as an initial entry: the first step is always the hardest, so start with something easy like this.

Great Spiritual Teachers have always counseled humanity that the world has meaning. Our soul has descended from the divine, and it has come here with an attainable purpose - a need for worldly experience, spiritual awakening, and perfection, before it returns once again to the divine. They tell us that the visible world is grounded in a higher order of reality, which is the source of life and life’s meaning, and which is only accessible through higher levels of Mind.

In the Beginning, there were seven days of Creation. So at the End, there will have to be seven reciprocal days of Destruction. But don’t get worried. “Seven” is an ancient and universal symbol of complete achievement. Thus, we have seven days of creation, seven colors of the spectrum, and seven notes in the musical scale. The Hindus speak of seven chakras, Aristotle speaks of seven spheres, Dante speaks of seven heavens. There are even seven deadly sins.

According to the Jewish mystical tradition, the Kabbalah, the Sacred Feminine is the ‘Vessel’ that accepts and protects the ‘Seed’, the ‘Light’, of the Sacred Masculine, like a chalice filled with wine. She then pours forth all of nature, abundance, and life. The Kabbalah adds, however, that as the Vessel continues down the path of ‘Creative Descent’ and reaches our level of material life, the divine Light becomes too intense for this lower inca ation of matter and the Vessel shatters, dispersing the Light.

Years ago, I realized that the primary cause of all our world’s problems and difficulties is the loss of any real sense of life’s meaning and significance. We live in a scientific and commercial age, an age of rationality and utility. This is the culmination of the great humanitarian agenda of the Enlightenment, which sought to attain security and prosperity for everyone, rather than just a few lucky aristocrats.

Our sexual energy is our spiritual energy. It is part of the soul’s ‘Serpent Power’ that encompasses the totality of Creation, the sacred force that can be used at one level for the creation of a human being, at another level for creativity in the arts and sciences, in business, and in human relations, and at the highest level for the re-creation – the rebirth – of a human soul.
