Dymphna was born in Ireland during the 7th century. Dymphna's father Damon, a petty king of Oriel, was pagan but her mother was a devout Christian. When Dymphna was 14 years old, her mother died. Damon had loved his wife deeply, and in the aftermath of her death his mental health sharply deteriorated. When at length he decided to remarry, Damon sought to find a woman who resembled his deceased wife. When no such woman could be found, Damon began to desire his daughter, because of the strong resemblance she bore to her mother.

Cleaning up the Past: Steps 7-9
For steps seven through nine we begin to clean up the garbage we left behind us during our addict days. Let's just say there's a lot of cleaning up to do and this process is one that needs to be repeated many times through your working the steps. As you approach these steps the first time, be gentle with yourself and don't attempt to "do it all" the first time around. The Big Book suggest that we be "fearless and thorough" from the very start but, I must caution newcomers that being too overconfident has lead many a newcomer into relapse and worse into death.

The truth is we can’t go it alone otherwise we would be in this world alone and not with our peers. We exist together for a reason and a season for a purpose. This purpose is to support one another on our paths and encourage each other to be the best we can be. We are powerless in and of ourselves. Being alone in the negative self-talk of addiction is a scary place to be. I’ve heard it described as going into a bad neighbor, in a dark alley at night.
