Audrey Valeriani was born to a working class, Italian-catholic family and raised in a tough Boston neighborhood. As a child, she was surrounded by dysfunction, depression, bullying, and discrimination. As an adolescent, she endured neglect and a number of physically and mentally abusive relationships.
During her teenage years, she suffered several near death experiences as well as significant loss, first with the death of her mother and, later, with the death of her best friend and aunt after whom she was named. For the most part, Audrey was alone and on her own by age 19 and, as she says in her book, “I had had enough. All of these things had driven me, finally, to the point of hopelessness, desperation, and rage… So here I sat, believing that this therapy session was my last chance of surviving under all this rubble. My heart was broken, my strength was gone; I felt unloved, betrayed, and inertly suicidal. Still I struggled to listen and understand everything my therapist said and tried to follow her every instruction. After all, my life was on the line. After several sessions, we began to make some progress. During one session, she suggested we try a visualization technique that I will never forget…” Inspired by her “jou ey back from hopelessness,” Audrey's book, Boot Camp for the Brokenhearted: How to Survive (and Be Happy) in the Jungle of Love provides readers with the keys to attaining high self-esteem – something the author found to be the source of her success. The book helps readers examine and improve their personal relationships by teaching new ways of thinking, communicating and behaving that will enable them to lead rewarding lives and attract and maintain loving relationships. It is based on Valeriani’s one-on-one coaching sessions, research, surveys, and interviews. In an endearing girlfriend-to-girlfriend style, she speaks to her readers with a no-holds-barred approach and honest and straightforward dialogue. The book provides readers with an intimate look at how to improve their lives and have physically and emotionally fulfilling relationships, all based around the simple concept of tapping into their own power and improving self-esteem. It’s a strong message with simple and unique solutions. Today Audrey Valeriani is a published author, columnist, freelance writer, relationship coach and creator and host of Bootcampforthebrokenhearted.com and TheAccidentalExpert.com. She holds the position of Board Chair of the non-profit organizatio Self Esteem Boston Educational Institute, Inc. and writes a monthly column for the Malden Observer. Audrey also just completed her contract as a Consultant for eHarmony Advice. She has written numerous articles on empowering women and improving self-esteem and relationships. Her mission is to help women everywhere by sharing her story and proving that “If I can do it, anyone can!”
Audrey is also the author of two gift books, It’s Not Easy Being Me! Random Thoughts of the Modern Woman (Writer’s Showcase Press, 2003) and Simple Ways to a Woman’s Heart: Movie Star Maneuvers That Will Take Her Breath Away! (Vantage Press, 1999).
