Hello, I am Barbara J.Henry, and until recently, I was a high school educator who taught junior and senior English in a large urban public school system.
I have been named in "Who's Who among High School Teachers, and my articles on education have appeared in "The American Educator" and "The National Jou al of Teachers of High School English".
I have a law degree that is invaluable to me,and although I have not practiced law, I have held key positions in the legal field.
For example, I have clerked for several judges, and I have served as the legal assistant in a large department of state government.
In 2008, I wrote and published my first book. Jou aling: Twenty Plus Reasons WhyYou Should Start Now,is a self growth work that is a direct consequence of my daily jou aling (literally) for the past thirteen plus years.
The book highlights the powerful benefits that result from daily writing, over time. My second book, Coming Full Circle, a book of poems, prayers and quotes that promote hope, faith and personal growth, was completed and published in 2012. The poems are my original works, but the prayers and quotes are from people around the world. This book will inspire anyone who reads it to dare, soar, and reach for those hopes and dreams that are always within our reach.
I am an avid reader who is particularly fond of legal mysteries, historical fiction, biographies of those who have made significant contributions to the world, and self growth/self help books.
I also like to tackle and solve crossword puzzles, especially those appearing in "The New York Times".

'Moments of Quiet Reflection'
Many of us have forgotten how important it is to be still, to spend a few moments daily to quiet the thoughts and relax our minds. Taking the time to be quiet,to silence our minds and activities, helps us to renew our energy and creativity. It also increases our level of gratitude. But we have been led to believe that we must be busy, doing something every moment. If we are idle for any amount of time, we think we are not being productive; this is especially true for those of us who are 'high achievers.' Many times, however, being idle or quiet, is exactly what is needed. Let me ask you:Ha

How to Develop a Winning Mind-set
Mind-set, a word that is well known by all who are going after and achieving their dreams and goals,is by far one of the most important keys to success. Webster defines the term as a 'fixed mental attitude formed by experience, education, and the prejudices acquired over the years.' The right mind-set is needed for any accomplishment,no matter how lowly, grand, or lofty it may be. As we fix our minds on our goals and take the necessary daily actions to reach those goals,we become successful again and again, and then we too will leave (success)clues for others to follow.

Ten Daily Actions for Successful Living
So much is taken for granted because too often we forget just how fortunate we are to be alive, healthy, in varying degrees, and loved, no matter where our homes happen to be in the world. The weak global economy, perhaps with the exception of China, Russia, and India, offers us an opportunity to reevaluate the things that are important and to improve our lives as well as the lives of those with whom we come into frequent contact. Now is an excellent time to become more focused on relationships, personal development and spirituality, all of which are important for success. The following

10 Words to Delete From Your Vocabulary: Revisited
So many comments were made on this blog when it was first posted in September of 2009. The majority of you said that you were going to work on eliminating the ten words from your vocabulary. I became quite curious a few days ago when I sat down to write. As I scrolled down the list of the numerous blogs I have written since 2009, I came to this one,and I began to wonder how many of you who made comments had actually taken action to delete all, most, or some (any?) of the words from your vocabulary. Here is the article as it appeared in 2009.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Barbara J. Henry
One of my favorite quotes is "Know thyself" attributed to the Greek philosopher Socrates. This quote has been a major guide on my jou ey of self growth and self discovery.
Getting to know the self, and accepting what we find, is one of life's major challenges I believe, but no real success is possible until we discover and accept who we are.
Another favorite quote of mine is credited to Ralph Waldo Emerson and that is:"Imitation is suicide."
Both quotes speak volumes about the value we place on our uniqueness and individuality.

How to get started
My general philosophy supports a belief that embraces life long learning.
I don't believe that one ever gets too old to learn something new, or to try a different approach or method.
I know life has untold challenges, and the more 'alive' we are, the more likely we are to have challenges, but we must confront them so that we can continue growing and becoming all that we are meant to become.
Leonardo DaVinci,at a very ripe age,is supposed to have said: "Ancora Imparo".
Translated into English, this means: "I am still learning".
I'd like to be able to say the very same thing throughout my life.
