Past-Life Regression -- Reality or Fantasy?
There's no doubt that regressing a client to a "past-life" can be therapeutic. But does that mean the client actually returns to a previous life, dozens or hundreds of years ago? No. The jou ey is akin to believing you've been abducted onto a flying saucer and impregnated by aliens. Past-life therapy is a tribute to the human imagination. And a metaphorical way to deal with present-day issues.

The Privacy Technique
Hypnotherapy Privacy Technique Bryan M. Knight, MSW, PhD. What if your client is too embarrassed to openly discuss his or her dilemma? Or what if the client has a good reason for not disclosing details of a trauma? Jane's father had sexually abused her from when she was 4 to eleven years old. While Jane could openly admit the abuse she was extremely uncomfortable with discussion of the details. How To Build High Self Esteem
Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself. Low self-esteem is when you have a low opinion of yourself. In this, it contrasts with low self-confidence which is your opinion of what you think you can't do. Many people suffer from low self-esteem. It often begins during our school days, especially with the unrealistic notion that no one must fail. This results not in each child feeling good about him or herself, but paradoxically, in more and more children suffering from low self-esteem. This is because non-accomplishment yields a negative self-image.

Who's Normal?
They Say You're Crazy; How the World's Most Powerful Psychiatrists Decide Who's Normal by Paula J. Caplan, Ph.D. Peaking out: How My Mind Broke Free from the Delusions in Psychiatry by Al Siebert, Ph.D. Practical Psychology Here are two books from PhD psychologists, one American, one Canadian, which raise the question, "Who decides who is normal?" Both authors vigorously challenge the generally accepted view that psychiatrists are best-placed to decide who is normal and who is not. Are psychiatrists (and other therapists) themselves "normal"? Hardly.

Smell the End to Your PTSD
Smell the End to Your PTSD Hypnotherapeutic Olfactory Conditioning Who knew when I anchored the rose-water scent of a client's favorite teacher in his mind to feelings of security and high self-esteem that I was employing "Hypnotherapeutic Olfactory Conditioning" (otherwise known as HOC) ? The olfactory glands are physically close to parts of the brain that store memories and process emotions. "The amygdala, in particular, plays an important role both in the long-term, unconscious storage of memories of fear and in the emotional processing of olfactory stimuli" (Otto, 2000).

More Scripts and Strategies in Hypnotherapy -- A Review
by Lynda Hudson Crown House Publishing Reviewed by Bryan M. Knight, MSW PhD. Wow. What a rich compendium of scripts for both novice and seasoned professional. Lynda Hudson provides such a valuable resource that it deserves to become a classic guide for the hypnotherapist who wonders what to say to help a client challenged with e.g., tics, illness, childbirth, unwanted habits, business fears, social anxiety, sports performance, or travel toilet phobia Those are just a few of the subjects the author tackles so adroitly.
