Cindy started as a computer systems consultant, helping hundreds of organizations computerize their accounting and operational systems, acting as advisor, project manager, technical resource, and trainer. Her strong understanding of systems and technology provided Cindy with an opportunity to work on many diverse projects including: developing bakery production and real estate management systems, and setting up job-costing, inventory tracking, payroll processing, and point of sale systems. Over time, she had the opportunity to work in a wide range of industries including: technology, nonprofit, government, health care, manufacturing, trade, service, education, and tourism, developing a comprehensive understanding of business operations.
With each project, Cindy had a chance to observe and learn, firsthand, how culture, priorities, and manager behavior affected employee loyalty and motivation. Slowly, she moved her practice from technology-based solutions to people-based solutions solidly grounded in basic business operations. Today, Cindy's consulting practice focuses exclusively on helping organizations improve operations, products, and services by improving workplace relationships and employee loyalty. She has worked with managers on five continents. Past clients include Cisco, MIT, State Farm Insurance, and WorkSafeBC.

Employee Recognition programs rarely produce the results that companies expect (and pay for). There are a number of reasons why this happens including:
1) They focus on the awards rather than creating a meaningful experience.
2) They attempt to use recognition as a band-aid as a cure-all.
3) Managers don't understand their role.
4) HR "owns" the program.
5) The program is too complex and time-consuming.
My work centers around creating a work environment where employees feel valued, engaged, and productive. I've helped companies create program, fix programs, and dump programs. I've recommended against implementing a program when it is the wrong solution. But most of my work is with managers, showing them how to create a positive work environment without significantly increasing their workload.
