Biographical Insights

The war was over for Dale when he awoke and found the Purple Heart medal pinned to the pillow of his hospital bed. But his personal battle was just beginning with months in traction and a year-long recovery to prepare the way for an artificial leg. The Army’s medical system put him back on his feet, and his courageous spirit gave him the will to fight the bureaucracy and become the first Vietnam War amputee to continue on active duty.

Dale’s unique set of leadership skills evolve from perseverance learned during this recovery, along with a broadened understanding of human nature and his training as a US Army Ranger. You’ll find him warm and compelling, but his business competitors were furious about his use of Ranger tactics to take market share.

One monopoly surrendered within months and was soon bought out. Off-shore competitors were out-flanked and left with full warehouses and empty bank accounts. Local competitors couldn’t stand the constant ambushes and settled for the low-profit, trouble-making accounts.

Fast Company magazine recognizes Dale as one of America’s Top 50 innovative leaders for starting businesses in Eastern Europe to employ the impoverished and assist orphanages in Ukraine.

Dale helped set academic standards teaching at West Point and other universities. Students and corporate leaders across the nation find Dale’s blend of humor and humility both characteristic and memorable. Stories of Dale’s successes and battlefield victories inspire men and women of all ages. Cross cultural and international audiences are just as intrigued.

Dale’s books are packed with stories, tips, and strategies aimed at improving productivity, developing leaders, and teaching leadership characteristics. Winning under Fire (McGraw-Hill) has sold more than 50,000 copies world wide.

As a professional speaker, Dale now headquarters in Boone, North Carolina and works exclusively with organizations to build courageous leaders and businesses. www.CourageBuilders.com
