“Leaky Gut Syndrome” is a term describing damage done to the stomach and intestinal wall by food, infections, nutrient deficiencies and toxins. Under normal circumstances gut cells are pulled tightly together to prevent molecules leaking from the gut into the blood stream in an inappropriate fashion. The places where these cells are pulled together are called “tight junctions”. When bad bugs like H pylori, or foods such as gluten cause inflammation and tissue damage, the tight junctions can become separated, with tiny gaps appearing between the cells and this is called “leaky gut”.

Interesting new findings… Osteoporosis is characterized by reductions in bone density, leading to fractures in vulnerable areas such as the wrists and hips, in addition to degradation of vertebrae. As such it is a serious problem. Theoretically, there are several reasons why H pylori infection could contribute to osteoporosis in some people. H pylori can cause stomach acid levels to decrease over time, leading to poor absorption of calcium and other minerals (this is shown in several studies and discussed in my book, The Hompes Method).r

The World Health Organization classifies H pylori infection as a class I carcinogen, putting it in the same band of risk for stomach cancer as cigarette smoking and asbestos for lung cancer. Moreover, the European Helicobacter Study Group has defined H pylori infection as the number one risk factor for stomach cancer, stating that early H pylori diagnosis and treatment is the best way to prevent the disease.

I’d like to make a fairly controversial comment at the outset, which is: “Irritable Bowel Syndrome doesn’t really exist!” In fact, I prefer to call IBS “Intestinal Bull Shit” Let me explain what I mean: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a ‘catchall’ term that is used to describe a bunch of symptoms that can’t really be explained by the medical system.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Dave Hompes

In 2007 I was diagnosed with H pylori after a long period of heartburn, acid reflux, anxiety and fatigue. I quickly and safely eradicated my H pylori infection without antibiotics and I’ve since helped thousands of people around the world achieve the same results. Sadly, having read more than 3,000 studies on H pylori I can safely say that the medical system has been very slow to grasp the many symptoms that H Pylori infection can cause.
