The best way to get started with David R. Hawkins is read his book, Power vs. Force. Dr. Hawkins starts with the proposition that “…the human mind is like a computer terminal connected to a giant database. The database is human consciousness itself…with its roots in the common consciousness of all mankind. …The unlimited information contained in the database has now been shown to be readily available to anyone in a few seconds, at any time and in any place.”

Dr. Hawkins says this giant database of human consciousness can be accessed using the science of kinesiology, which includes a diagnostic tool called “muscle testing,” a simple procedure for testing strength and evaluating how it varies in response to an outside stimulus. Dr. Hawkins uses kinesiological testing “as a tool for assessing value and motive, revealing the hidden determinants of human behavior.”

Using these techniques, Dr. Hawkins has made a logarithmic scale ranking different levels of consciousness, from shame (20) to courage (200) to enlightenment (700 – 1,000). According to Dr. Hawkins, effectiveness of activity from the higher states of consciousness is based on power, the influence of good or leadership. The effectiveness of activity from the lower states of consciousness is based on force.

This section on “The Best Way to Get Started” doesn’t provide adequate room to fully communicate the implications of Dr. Hawkins’s ideas, but hopefully, it provides you with a beginning. Power vs. Force is not a quick or simple read, but it does provide some powerful ideas.
