The Beginning of My Journey as a Healer Expert

Dr. Vittoria Repetto Quick Facts

It would seem that I have been heading this way for quite a long time. My journey to become a healer started with a journey of healing myself. I started this journey as a constipated child who had a cold at least once a month and whose ragweed allergy was getting worse every year.

At 18, I was in the Italian Alps; a cousin introduced me to a whole grain product called muesli. It was my first un-constipated summer. Back in New York City I was having a hard time finding this product until I found this hole-in the-wall health food store. I had my first taste of carrot juice and left with the muesli, some brown rice and a resolution not to overcook my vegetables.

In the next seven years, my journey included changes in my diet, martial arts and studies of nutrition, herbs and homeopathics. During this time I was seriously thinking about what to do for the rest of my life. People around me were always asking me for back rubs; saying what good hands I had. The idea of helping people appealed to me, so in 1976, I started studying massage.

Also at this time, I had intensified my martial arts studies and was having muscle strains and spasms that no amount of stretching or massage seemed to help. A fellow student suggested that I go see "old Doc Christie" - a 75 yr old chiropractor whose mind was as clear as her body was strong. I would sit for hours watching her adjust her patients and listening to her talk about subluxations, nerve energy flow, spinal manipulations, extremity manipulations, enemas and liver detox. My ragweed allergy was improving.

My martial arts teacher told me about applied kinesiology; it was a technique that incorporated chiropractic with muscle balancing, organ neuro-vascular & neuro-lymphatic points, cranial-sacral work, nutritional consultation and meridian acu-point therapy. With this you could ask the body itself what is needed to heal itself. In order to do this, you couldn't do assembly line chiropractic. You had to spend time: do a complete exam, explore the chemical and mental factors as well as the structure. And to this busy New Yorker, being in a doctor's office three times a week seemed like it was adding to your stress; an hour visit a week seemed more logical.

At chiropractic college and then in my practice I have polished this idea, this healing philosophy. Recently I have incorporated studies on intestinal wall integrity, IgG food allergies and how these affect not only your digestive system but also the respiratory system, the immune system, the spine and neuro-musculoskeletal disorders like low back pain, neck and mid back pain arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatique and degeneratives disc problems. As you can see the journey is not over; it continues.

And by the way my ragweed allergy is long gone.

For the last 2 months, esp. here in NYC, we have been hearing about public health officials and some politicians wanting to not just force food companies to reduce the salt in their processed foods but to also make it a violation for a restaurant to cook w/ salt. Now let me make myself perfectly clear: decreasing salt in processed foods, in general, is a good idea.

When I’m meeting new people at a social or a networking event, I introduce myself as a Doctor of Chiropractic and an Applied Kinesiologist. Sometimes they have no idea what AK is and I fill them in. But most of the time, they will say something like “I had someone touch a spot on me and then pull down on my outstretched arm. It was weak. Then I held a bottle of pills and was told I needed them. Is that Applied Kinesiology?” This is one of the big abuses of muscle testing.

First before we talk about Neuro-lympathics, we need to talk about lymphatics and the lymphatic system, what they are and their role in your health. Lymph is a clear colorless liquid carrying microscopic particles such as white blood cells, food, protein, and other substances such as water necessary for the cell’s health; also it may contain bacteria , viruses, toxics and other foreign material. This lymph is collected by a system of collecting tubes located near our organs, and muscles that drain the lymph is called the lymphatic system.

At least 5-8 times a year, I’ll get a patient in that tells me that they have seen a chiropractor for their upper neck pain (or another part of their spine) but it never resolved. I smile and do the usual orthopedic and neurological testing along with muscle testing neck muscles like the cervical erector, the SCM & the Scalene Anticus. And then I go and test muscles bilaterally such as the Psoas muscle a major muscle of locomotion or the Gluteus Maximus; both of these muscle being strong postural muscles

So here we are with all the health gurus telling us that we should be eating all our foods in their natural forms aka un-processed. And yet when they talk about dairy, the majority of these people talk about drinking and consuming low fat milk, yogurt and cheeses. And of course, the same people talk about not using things like coconut milk or eating too many nuts or nut butters.

How to get started

Our Philosophy

My practice is located in Downtown Manhattan. Here you will find a blend of old fashioned doctoring where you are listened to and treated w/ courtesy and dignity, where your time is valuable, where you are not part of today's assembly line health care and where I use Applied Kinesiology or AK as part of my practice.

My goal is to motivate and help my patients reach a higher level of health and to actualize their potential. I do this through the ability to determine why the body is not functioning as a system, to get the body working together as it is intended, and help my patients clear the emotional stressors that often impede health and happiness.

I believe that good health is a process and not an event. Therefore patients seen by me take responsibility in the healing as they learn why their health problem has occurred and what they can do to help stop and reverse the process.

I am often asked if I treat conditions such as asthma, allergies, thyroid problems, migraines or ulcerative colitis as well as back, neck and muscle pain. My answer is that I don't treat the disease but I treat the person who may be suffering from any of the above mentioned problems or diseases.

And yes, I have helped patients w/ asthma, allergies, thyroid problems, migraines or ulcerative colitis function better and be symptom free.

When diagnosing and healing my patients, I incorporate the triad of health. The triad is represented as an equilateral triangle with structural health being its base (bones, muscles), and the upright sides representing chemical (nutrition, toxins) and mental (emotional, spiritual) health. When a person experiences poor health, there is an imbalance in one or more of these factors.

The typical patient seen by me is the person who:

Suffers from a condition where a medical pathology has been ruled out but the other doctors cannot find the cause.

Has a treatable condition and wants to utilize non-pharmacological means of getting relief.

Knows that health is a question of balancing the structural, chemical and mental components of healing.

Wants to spend time with their doctor to develop the old-fashioned doctor-patient relationship based on trust and respect.

My Insurance Policy

I do not belong to any insurance network.

If I belonged to a network I would have to see patients in an assembly line fashion (10-15 minutes). I would not be able to take time to, for example, balance the muscle pull on your spine or extremities or to do cranial sacral work or acupressure work or talk to you about your nutritional needs or suggest exercises or lifestyle changes related to your condition.

Therefore I ask that my patients pay me directly and I fill out their insurance claim form for them and they get reimbursed by their insurance company if they are allowed to go "out of network" by their policy.

I charge $150 for the initial visit which includes consultation, examination and treatment and the $100 for the following visits. All sessions are an hour long and also due to this, I do not require my patients to come in 3x a week.
