...During that period of time after my initial writings, the searching and digging, I began having some profound moments of clarity, and a budding sense of self-awareness that I had never experienced. I was beginning to understand that the less self-centered I became, the more self-aware I will be. Love care, and conce for my family, and the desperation to change were key in this newfound sense of being. I was finally losing the fear of letting go of self. The director of the program said something to me that really hit home. He proclaimed to me, “The most important question you have to answer is, ‘Why do you do what you do?’” This stuck with me. And it took me another five years to finally have that answer...

One of the most popular trends in software and app updates is the addition of a "dark mode." If you haven't tried out the feature, or seen anyone else use it, it basically inverts your screen. A traditionally white screen becomes a dark blue or black, and text becomes white. It feels like every app and operating system is racing to launch new dark mode features. For example, Microsoft Outlook, Reddit, YouTube, and Gmail have all added the feature recently. New operating systems like MacOS Mojave and Android Pie are also getting on board.

Humans are habitual creatures. This can obviously work in both directions, good and bad. A lot of factors can go into the decisions we make. The choices and patterns of behavior we practice. I want to discuss a bit about some of the things we can do, from my own experience, to break bad habits and adopt healthier patterns of behavior. One of the most important aspects of change is self-honesty. Obviously, it is important for a person to be honest with themselves. I mean, if I can’t be honest with me, how can I ever be truly honest with anyone else or situation?

Shawn Anchor did a lot of research for this book, and it shows through in the writing. According to him, in an interesting and fresh take, we don’t find happiness, and it’s not something we should look to achieve… We are happiness. In The Happiness Advantage, Anchor breaks down how positivity has neurological effects that are beneficial. This is something that seems to go without saying, but we can get caught up in the day-to day-routines of our lives and we can lose sight of this.

Sharing information is powerful. Free market of ideas. The power of the spirit. I like to define it personally like this- I can choose to be a part of it (open spirit, open mind), or I can choose to go about things solely on my own (closed spirit, closed mind). Isolation and trying to come up with my own answers didn’t work out so well. Because of childhood trust issues that I allowed to carry over into my adulthood, I was closed off. I always thought I needed to come up with all of the answers on my own.

The more self-aware I became... There was an experience I had in 2010 where my whole life seemed to flash before my eyes. It was like a condensed version of all the things that I had done that were selfish and hurtful. It was so vivid. The interesting part was that during this same period, I was having moments of profound self-awareness, the likes of which I had never experienced. What I came to realize is this- The more self-aware I became, the less self-centered I was. Direct evidence

Breathing: One of the most undervalued… One of the most undervalued self-help and wellness techniques in our arsenal is breathing exercises. Breathing is such an involuntary action, many of us go about our day not even giving it a second thought. For me, coming to understand just how important the breath is in my overall well-being came about during the spiritual experience I had in 2015. I had just began

How to get started

Think of the implications of this… The more I made it about me, the less of me I could actually see. This to me, is direct evidence of the interconnectedness of it all. A universal consciousness… The spirit among us. I’ve grown to a ‘place’ now where I realize, given this new understanding, that the more I do to help others, and be a part of this force, the more grounded I am.
