Though I’ve been utilizing EFT as my main treatment modality in my psychotherapy practice for 7 years, I still can get blown away by the near miraculous results. I’d like to share a recent case with you that really made my heart soar. Mind you, this is a complicated case and continues to be a work in progress. Matthew (not his real name) is an adorable 8 year old boy, who was born with several birth defects, is developmentally delayed, has TICS associated with Tourette Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and has issues with ADD.

Statistics regarding sexually behavior among teenagers can be taken with a grain of salt. Because society has a controversial relationship to sex in general, and at best marginalizes teen sexuality, this population has many reasons to hide their sex lives from adults, and little reason to be honest. This probably accounts for the fluctuating data I’m finding about teens and sex. Most of the research appears to support the conclusion that teenagers are waiting to have vaginal intercourse.

What comes to mind when you think about your immune system? Do you think about an army of special cells, proteins, tissues, and organs ready to go to battle to defend you from organisms and substances that invade your system and cause disease? Do you visualize little Pac-Men like creatures gobbling up all the little buggies? How about cancer? Did just reading the word flame the fire of fear? Say these words out loud right now: "I have cancer." How did your body react? Did your heart race? Face flush? Shoulders tense?

As parents, most of us feel it our duty to protect our children from harm. We can, and should, take all precautionary measures to prevent injury to our children and teach them safety practices and self care. However, protecting them from the natural ebb and flow of life can leave them ill equipped to successfully manage adversity, loss, failure, conflict or disappointment. Like it or not, life is not always predictable or smooth. In fact, the one thing that is predictable is that life will be a roller coaster of ups and downs, highs and lows, calm and storm.

Having just finished Eckhart Tolle’s, A New Earth, I am feeling exhilarated. Imagine! A New York Times best seller that describes and explains how and why the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) works! Obviously, that wasn’t the point of the book. I don’t know if Mr. Tolle is currently aware of the effectiveness of EFT and how it is transforming the lives of millions of people all over the world. I am quite sure, however, if he had been aware at the time of his writing, he would have instructed his readers in at least the basic technique.

Most are familiar with the saying, “Depression is anger turned inward”. In my opinion, this is an over simplified statement. Many factors can come into play in the development of depression. However, unresolved anger should always be explored when a client presents with depression.

Since the movie "The Secret" came out, the Law of Attraction has been receiving a lot of attention. Mostly what I hear is "The Law of Attraction doesn't work for me." A simplified definition of The Law of Attraction (LOA) is: “We attract from the outside what we resonate with on the inside.” We are constantly creating our reality. This is quite a scary thought to some - this concept that we are personally attracting what is showing up in our lives. Scary or not, we are powerful beyond measure. If we have the power to attract poverty, we have the power to attract abundance.

The results of several research articles show that shame plays an important role in depression. I was prompted to examine the research when I noticed that many of my clients seeking help for depression also had feelings of shame. So I did a little informal survey of my own. I randomly pulled 71 client records. As part of my client intake process, I use a “Symptom Checklist” consisting of over 80 emotional, psychological and physical indications of distress. Included is a checkbox for “depression” and one for “feelings of shame”.

It's practically impossible to go through life without being hurt by somebody. Most of us humans have a hard time letting go of such injuries and carry these scars of pain, resentment and anger with us for months, years, or even a lifetime. Forgiveness can be a difficult concept to understand. I often hear, "If I forgive her, then she got away with what they did".

I have asked countless number of children “Is getting mad bad?” Very close to 100% answered yes. This has made me very curious as to the message we are presenting to children about anger. It has made me wonder how we adults express our anger and how that affects our children’s perspective that mad is bad. While talking to children about anger I speak to the important role anger plays in our lives. Anger lets us know that something is wrong. It is a signal that we are hurt, scared, or frustrated, our rights are being violated, or our needs are not being met.
