Selling your business can be a very emotional process. Countless hours and tremendous effort go into building a business, then one day, it is time to sell. It is easier for serial entrepreneurs to deal with closing day than it is for someone who has been in a business from start-up 25 years ago. It is definitely time for change. You can feel it in the air. This recession is living proof. Lucky for me, I hit my own recession/depression about a year ago, giving me plenty of time to gather strength for what is happening now. Yes, I did say lucky. Ignoring my intuition, dreams and creative abilities in favor of a steady $24/hour paycheck in a soul-sucking workplace landed me in the dumps, which led to a powerful breakthrough. I am lucky because it happened then. Had it happened now, I don’t know if I would have had the courage to break loose and follow my dreams.

The more that we as individuals compartmentalize ourselves with labels, the more we distance ourselves from possibilities that can enrich our lives, expand our circles of influence and bring unexpected results. Our culture has become one of pre-judgment in which we mentally tag and dismiss others based on occupations, income-levels and personal appearance to such a degree that it is difficult to reach outside of one’s social circle, workplace or fitness club to meet those who contrast and compliment our own attributes.

You are faced with a blank page. Now what? The great idea for an epic novel suddenly seems dull. The pages beyond appear out of reach. The carpet suddenly requires immediate vacuuming. The phone rings and you leap to answer it. Menial errands begin to gain importance over anything you could possibly put on paper. What it boils down to is that it is easier not to write. Just now, in the middle of writing this article, thinking about distractions, I got up and made a grilled-cheese sandwich. A perfect example of what I’m talking about today.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Heather Loewen

Change can be alarming. It doesn't have to be. It can be fun, exciting and pleasurable.
Think about what you really want your life to be. Making that happen will require change.
The only thing that doesn't change is change itself, so you might as well take advantage of it and make it happen the way you want.
You truly are amazing. All that stuff that happened to you, all that stuff that is going on right now...you can overcome it.
Dare to be yourself.
