Do you feel easily overwhelmed or over-stimulated when there is a lot going on around you? Are you easily affected by the moods and emotions of others and seem to pick up their energy? I started to distinguish the difference between self-care and soul care when I was working in social services in a government corporation. Myself and others were not finding the known strategies of eating well, sleeping enough, and exercising regularly effective in alleviating the kind of stress we were under. Many of my co-workers became disillusioned about being able to help others and ran on adrenaline and medication boosts to get through the day. I just kept pushing to get everything done and make everyone happy, while neglecting my own needs.

In other words, when you are feeling hungry, angry, lonely and tired, it’s time to slow down, stop, redirect, and step back. It’s a call to rest. This is the perfect time for a reset and it best accomplished by taking refuge.
