After serving honorably as a United States Marine Corps, Desert Storm Veteran from 1986 to 1992. Jim Gilligan, LCSW has been practicing individual, couple, family and group psychbotherapy on the post graduate level for over 9 years primarily with combat military veterans and their families who have suffered from PTSD. Jim holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and a Bachelor’s of Art Degree in Psychology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. after serving honorably as a United States Marine Corps, Desert Storm Veteran. During the past 9 years, Jim has conducted workshops on Parenting Issues, Men Issues, and has guest lectured on the topic of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and it’s affect on combat military veterans from Vietnam to OIF/OEF at Midweste University Medical School Physician Assistant program in Downers Grove, IL(2002) and Loyola University Chicago graduate school of social work (2005). Jim has also created an original parenting workshops, “Effective Choices, Effective Parenting, Winning Cooperation with Your Child” that was presented for Continuing Education Credits for mental health professionals at Riveredge Hospital in Maywood, IL. Jim's expertise in the treating combat military veterans has earned him two Certificate Of Appreciations for his contributions and service in helping Combat Veterans cope with the effects of PTSD given by The Readjustment Counseling Service-Central Region; Department of the VA RCS Central Region October 1, 2005 and again in June of 2009. Jim was also awarded The American Red Cross Fox River Chapter 2006 Hometown Hero Award: Military Category, for contributions in conducting counseling and psychotherapy to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Veterans and their families, helping them to readjust to life after combat.

How to get started

I have been practicing psychotherapy on the post graduate level for over 10 years.My focus is on providing individual psychotherapy for adults who present with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, issues with Grief and Loss, Non Medicated modules of Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Parenting Issues. I'm also available to provide consultation, presentations and lectures on these issues.
