6:00 A.M. Your alarm is ringing in your ear. You hit the snooze button but there it is again, screaming in your ear. You have one hour to get ready and leave for work. But the warm, toasty covers seem to be confining you to your bed. The timer on the coffee maker has switched on and the aroma of that cup of comfort slowly arouses you as you make your way to the kitchen. After pouring a little coconut cream into the steamy cup, you warm your hands around the outside of the mug, take a sip, and make your way to the desk to find out what today's workout will be. There are just three days left until you complete the Jinifit program and you can't wait. Incredibly, you're 30 pounds lighter, you're sleeping better, your sex life is, well, not what it used to be (in the best possible way), and you're annoyed that you have nothing to wear today because all the clothes in your closet keep falling off. How, you ask, is this possible?

Jinifit is a unique hybrid system of exercise, anti-aging nutrition, and self-motivation that has resulted in many transformed lives. While many of her colleagues in the industry (she is based in Los Angeles) consider themselves to be actors first, and trainers…to make ends meet; being a fitness specialist means, for Jini, being a 20 year veteran of the health and fitness industry, holding a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology as well as the most prestigious certification in the industry (CSCS-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA-National Strength and Conditioning Association), and enhancing her qualifications by becoming certified in Functional Movement Screening (a way of identifying and correcting physical imbalances and weaknesses that can lead to injury). Drawing from Pilates to power lifting, this innovative approach can take the average exerciser and, utilizing the body’s own hormonal response to exercise; make them lean for life.

Acting as the body's "messengers," hormones (of which there are many types) also greatly influence how the body reacts to foods it eats. This is the primary focus of the dietary component of the program. A s a certified nutrition consultant Jini educates clients on how to make the best daily food choices in order to illicit the desired hormonal response. She has learned through experience that the synergistic effect of combining the right exercise with the right dietary habits yields incredible results. Having worked as a Health Educator for a professional line of nutritional supplements, Jini has helped numerous clients achieve the lean body they’ve always wanted using the balanced, hormonal approach to eating which has been for many, the missing link to their success.
"Discipline leads to self-confidence and self-respect." Believing in designing one's life; freely, and without restrictions; looking forward to a life of possibilities rather than the limitations of the past, Jini has developed a unique approach to the most critical aspect of success on any program-compliance. This approach encompasses behavior modification, self-management, motivational techniques, and yes, even discipline-promoting consistency and accountability. Implementing sound psychological reinforcement insures that newly developed good habits last a life time. While staying focused and motivated on a lifestyle program requires commitment and determination, that never stops participants from having a lot of fun. Most of Jini’s clients have been working with her for over ten years. Current and former clients include many entertainment industry professionals who can be found both in front of and behind the camera.

Specifically designed for the self-motivated exerciser, The Jinifit Virtual Training Program features "supervised autonomy" as a way to promote self-management and discipline. This 90 day transformational program combines exercise program design and implementation, nutritional counseling, (utilizing an online software program that serves as a diet and exercise journal), and daily/weekly coaching calls that focus on staying motivated in addition to program design updates and eating plan adjustments-all for the cost of what the average personal trainer charges for just one month.

Jini is active in many professional organizations including NSCA (The National Strength and Conditioning Association), NANP (National Association of Nutrition Professionals), ASEP (American Society of Exercise Physiologists), and WRS (Worthwhile Referral Sources), Southern Califo ia’s largest networking organization. She continually engages in the pursuit of the very latest science-driven advances in the industry in an effort to elevate the standard of care for clients in a performance, general fitness, and rehabilitative setting. She works closely with Medical Doctors, Chiropractors, Nutritionists, and other health care professionals and spends much of her free time reading professional jou als, attending conferences, seminars, and workshops which help keep her at the forefront of this rapidly changing industry. She has appeared as an exercise consultant on NBC’s Access Hollywood and has been featured in publications such as The Los Angeles Daily News, and Shape Magazine. She also writes articles for many fitness and nutrition newsletters and ezines.

Valslides are the invention of celebrity personal trainer Valerie Waters. Val had the clever idea of taking two pieces of plastic and gluing a square of foam rubber to each of them, packaging them, selling them, and is now getting rich. Actually, I don’t know how rich she is or isn't but the Valslide is a clever idea and lots of trainers in the fitness industry now use her tool.

I first discovered The Charlie Francis Training System through Bret Contreras, someone whose work I admire and respect. Only available in Kindle edition, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an interview with a 1980’s track and field coach conducted by the coach’s wife; but it was excellent. Becoming acquainted with this coach and his athletes was more of an education tha I anticipated.

1) Stupid Cardio-Are you still hanging all over the Stairmaster with your arms “rolled in” for 45? 60? minutes or more? Even Shape magazine doesn’t still promote that kind of cardio. In case you haven’t noticed “we” don’t do cardio like that anymore. It’s a waste of time and may even be detrimental to your fitness efforts (it raises stress hormones and breaks down muscle.) Moderate intensity, long-duration cardio is a thing of the past.

The practice of yoga is 5,000 years old. I knew that! And as Wikipedia and the other internet info centers mentions, no one knows who created yoga because 5,000 years ago because human beings weren’t putting pen to paper quite yet to record that. The traditional purpose of Yoga, I’ve found out, has always been to bring about a profound transformation in the person through the transcendence of the ego. Hmm…then explain to me why, in recent months, I’ve noticed thatr

By now, you pretty much know how I feel about chocolate. Then again, is there a person alive who doesn’t love it? I suppose there is but seriously, what’s wrong with them?

Is it wrong to talk about how well an author’s intense blue eyes are set off by his dark brown hair when you’re about review his book? Could that be considered a conflict of interest somehow? Well, be that as it may, Dr. John Berardi is much more than a pretty face (besides; he’s married) (and there are a couple of other co-authors here as well but really, who cares?)

Any reader of Throwing a Fit knows, I am huge on education. I have not stayed on the "cutting edge" (an overused term but one I do not throw around lightly), in this industry for nothing. I go to seminars, workshops, get specialized certifications, read books, magazines, jou als, blogs, etc. to really stay on top of what is happening. To that end, one of the experts whose work I "follow" is a doctor and physical therapist out of Canada named Dr. Andreo Spina. Dr. Spina is an amazing talent. He understands functional anatomy and physiology in a way that few people I've followed does.
