Time and Attention - Children Need It!
Tell me if you've heard this one. Five birds are sitting on a telephone wire. Two decide to fly south. How many are left? Most people would say three. Actually, all five are left. You see, deciding to fly isn't the same thing as actually doing it. So it is with most things. Good intentions are not enough. It's not what we want, say or think that makes things happen; it's what we do. We either make the time for the things we want to and should do, or we make excuses. No doubt all good parents want to spend more time with their children, but so often life gets in the way.

A Must Read Legendary Fruitcake Story
Make a list of your favorite things about Christmas and I would be willing to bet your list doesn't include fruitcake. Christmas fruitcake has never made the list unless you are a Randisi. My mother-in-law Rose Randisi made the best Christmas fruitcake bar none. People who have tasted her fruitcake unanimously agree, hers is nothing like the customary fruitcake misfortune everyone dreads. And that is because Rose’s fruitcake is flat out delicious. We normally fight over the last piece, it is that good.

Three Things Parents Should Never Do for Their Children
A teacher once asked me, “What are you doing with your children?” She pushed her reading glasses to the end of her nose, pointed her finger directly at me and said, “I must speak to you in private.” I didn’t know what to expect. She shook her head and added, “What ever IT is, just keep doing ...

The Hurried Child
The French philosopher Jean-Jacque Rousseau wrote, “Childhood has its own way of seeing, thinking, and feeling, and nothing is more foolish than to try to substitute ours for theirs.” The pressure on today’s children to grow up fast begins in early childhood, starting with their clothing. We ...

Three Things Parents Should Never Do For Their Children
When our four year-old son asked if he could have a candy bar at the grocery store, I said no, and he said, okay, and the woman behind me said, “Wow, I’ve never seen that before.” She couldn’t recall seeing a child take no for an answer without whining. Usually children ...

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Jodie Randisi
"If classroom management isn't in place, nothing good happens." The most unchallenged assumption today is that children are coming to school knowing how to behave and ready to learn. That's not the case. Almost 50% of new teachers leave the profession in 5 years. I'm on a mission to stop teacher attrition with a proven program called Time To Teach!, which focuses on classroom management and student discipline.

Other highlights
Finally, a user-friendly checklist of fresh ideas has become available for parents, grandparents, babysitters, teachers, and therapists. Actually, this book is a much-needed resource for anyone and everyone who spends time with children.
201 Things to Do… was first published in 1992 when Randisi was a young mother struggling to come up with ideas for things to do with her three young children. Despite being an elementary school teacher, she found herself using the television as a babysitter. Randisi admits the book was written out of necessity.
It wasn’t long before she discovered her collection of ideas served a much greater audience. As it turns out, she was not the only one with good intentions and not enough good ideas.
Now, the checklist of ideas has been revamped to include space for jou
aling allowing the everyday moments of children having fun to be captured and preserved.
201 Things to Do… is user-friendly book, unlike many huge scrapbooking projects. Not every idea requires a jou al entry. Straightforward pages and no fluff allows readers to bypass tedious reading and glide right into the fun. The goal is to eliminate boredom by encouraging spur-of-the-moment playfulness, which in turn builds healthy relationships.
