Judi Perkins was a third-party recruiter for 22 years helping hundreds of hiring authorities hire entry level through CEOs. She set up/followed up on over 15,000 interviews; had exclusive, repeat clients; and consistently broke sales records by listening, building relationships, and paying attention to details. She’s seen well over 500,000 resumes.
As a career coach, her knowledge of sales, psychology, and how hiring authorities think has led to many of her clients finding jobs within 8 – 12 weeks because her focus and orientation is considerably different from that of other coaches. She brings sequence, structure, and focus to the job search, and because of her sales background, she factors in skills and details no other coach teaches or understands. You learn strategies that are counter-intuitive and begin to understand why the typical strategies so often fail.
As a career coach, her clients often find jobs – their perfect job – within 8 – 12 weeks, because her background and knowledge are radically different from that of other coaches who lack the diversity in search consulting and don’t have the successful sales background and extensive knowledge of human behavior she does.
She educates job seekers on what the candidate selection process is about so that you not only learn how to present your story honestly and to the best effect, but you are able to focus yourself in a specific direction that will bring results. Some of what you learn:
- to understand and decipher what's really going on in your job search process
- why it hasn’t been working and how to turn it around
- what to do, why, and how the varied actions and statements are perceived
- how to read an ad and what that means to you relative to effort and interest
- how to respond to ensure you don’t get lost in the crowd
- why 99.9% of all cover letters don’t get read (despite the formulas that say they will ) and why both templates and professionally written ones are a waste of money
With step-by-step guidance she brings focus, sequence and structure to your job search, making it easy for you to understand why the typical strategies so often fail. Above all, you learn how you’ve been giving away your power and how to take it back to control your search and find your perfect job.
She’s been on PBS’s Frontline, Smart Money magazine, CareerBuilder, MSN Careers, Yahoo Hot Jobs, the New York Times, the New York Daily News, interviews on radio shows around the country (including a regular Thursday morning gig on a station in New Mexico), and is included as an expert in numerous career books. ***Thank you letters: A simple formula for uniqueness
Sending a thank you letter is as important as interview preparation. But they’re tough to write, so people either tell themselves that not sending one doesn’t matter, or they procrastinate until it’s too late and almost pointless anyway. Anyone who tells themselves that foregoing a fundamental rule of etiquette doesn’t matter, not only taints themselves in the mind of the interviewer, but misses two additional opportunities to sell.

***Five Questions You Should Always Ask on an Interview
An interview is a two-way street. It’s never a good idea to go in without prepared questions and you should be able to easily come up with 15 - 20 first-interview questions to ask. But these five - in some form - should always be asked. Not only will they help you to ascertain if the job for which you are interviewing meets the criterion of your perfect job, but the answers, when put together, will give you a fairly accurate picture of what's going on behind the interview.

***HOW TO HANDLE A BAD REFERENCE
You just learned one of your previous employers has been giving you a bad reference. Count your blessings that you found out, because many never do. But what do you do about it? Bad references don't always prevent someone from getting a job. The key is how the issue is handled in the reference, and how you handle it prior to the reference being checked. So your goal isn't necessarily to erase or debate the issue, only to reach agreement on its presentation.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR RESUME SELL
The most problematic part of a resume for people seems to be crafting their accomplishments. The confusion between an accomplishment and a responsibility is the difference between generating excitement by selling what you can do, and making a bland statement that elicits the question “So what?” It’s the difference between being invited in for an interview….and getting no response at all.

Demystifying Headhunters - How to Partner with Recruiters to Find Your Perfect Job
Everything You Need to Know About Attracting, Choosing, and Working With Recruiters (with lots of valuable information even if you’re not ONE RECRUITER, TWO RECRUITERS, THREE RECRUITERS, FOUR? It's not necessary for you to tell a recruiter how many firms you are working with, although the recruiter might ask you that question. It's your job search, and it's not always a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket, especially if you are unemployed or your employer knows you are looking.

***THE CONFIDENCE GAME
This confidence game isn't the same as the scam. This one applies to those who have been hunting with no results and are becoming discouraged. Rapidly. Let's go back to how most people search, because that's where the problem - or problems - are. Your cover letter neglects to tie you to the ad and your resume fails to entice. Or perhaps your cover letter sells and your resume is full of accomplishments, but you’re answering unrealistic ads. Or perhaps you’re targeting ads wisely, but being overly picky, forgetting that ads tell if you want to interview, not if you want to work there.

***Find The Perfect Job!
In addition to drug testing and often fingerprinting, companies both national and international have also required credit checks. But it’s become more the norm than the exception, because with the extreme number of people applying, companies have implemented it as a means of indicating a candidate’s character.

***Are You Putting a Square Peg in a Round Hole?
Thanks to Fisher-Price, as babies we learn a concept that we seem to forget by the time we’re adults: you can’t put a square peg in a round hole. We do it especially with relationships and with jobs. If we don’t know what we’re looking for, we become obscured by what we’re attracted to. And then we don’t realize we’ve reverted to pounding the round orange peg into the hole on that plastic table right in front of us when it's the square blue peg that fits.

***ARE YOU A DEFENSIVE INTERVIEWER? Part 1
One of the frequent reasons a new client seeks me out is because they’re getting interviews, but no offers. The primary problem is always that the seeker has very little idea, beyond some basics, of what they’re looking for. But there are always additional layers, one of which is lack of preparation, and is, not surprisingly, closely tied to the primary problem. And as this pattern continues, other problems develop, the most prevalent of which is getting defensive. Ironically, the harder you try, the worse things get.

ARE YOU A DEFENSIVE INTERVIEWER? Part 2
In part 1 we talked about how defensive interviewing can sabotage results. In part 2 we look at how to prevent it. The first, and most obvious way, is to be prepared. Know what you want in a job and define it by looking at your previous positions. Consider what motivates you, in what kind of work environment you excel, know what type of company culture you want. This information gives you a basis for questions to tell you if the company is one you want to pursue.

***ARE YOU HEADED FOR TERMINATION?
Ever been fired and it was a complete surprise? If you have, it shouldn’t have been. You missed the cues. Whether you created it or the company decided it, you lost control of your career. Frequently those two are intertwined, and if you don’t dissect the experience, you may recreate it.

***HONESTY IN INTERVIEWING
How honest should you be when you’re interviewing? Unequivocally one hundred percent honest. But don’t confuse honesty with showing all your cards or not utilizing the power of presentation. Nor does honesty mean volunteering your dark secrets – perceived or otherwise - from the moment you walk through the door.

Some coaches have successfully transformed their own career - that's not enough. Others were in management and have hired people throughout their career (50 people maybe?), but that doesn't make them an expert. Plus, you're getting only their opinion.
Other coaches may have done speaking gigs and been quoted in print so they’re good at marketing, but are they good at career coaching? Can they get you where you need to go? What’s their background? What's their source of information? Experience.....or books?
Judi gave me a whole new perspective on my job search. I was preparing for a phone interview and felt unsure of how to prepare. Judi gave me some solid advice and also gave me a homework assignment. I can’t tell you how surprised I was when the interviewer covered all the points Judi had discussed with me! Judi gave me a new outlook on my job search by boosting my attitude and giving me the confidence I needed. I was inspired by her wisdom, experience, and her can-do attitude. She is definitely the go-to gal to help in your job search and to land the job!

I'm a straight up, no BS, advocate of you. You’ll get psychology, wisdom, understanding, friendship, irreverence, advanced sales knowledge, common sense, and irreverence when you work with me. I'm a little bit of a renegade and I often throw out the window many of the principles and advice others embrace as necessary for a successful job search.
If you want to challenge your thinking, learn new ways of understanding how to find a job, learn skills you’ll take with you the rest of your career, and work hard, I’m who you want. If you want a magic bullet or someone who will tell you what you want to hear in order to sell you stuff, I’m not. Read the pages and pages of testimonials on my website.
I was a very successful recruiter for C-level through mid-level management for 22 years and have a very unusual background in contingency, employment agency, and retained experience, plus a very diverse background in multiple industries and functions.
The biggest thing I've liked is the fact that your approach is systematic. From day one, I knew which steps we were going to take and in which order. I knew right from the website that month one was going to be largely set-up and preliminary work. So there was no expectation of finding a job right away. Now, I'm seeing the work pay off. Obviously, the interview is great, but I'm getting some good leads from the cold letters and calls as well. I'm confident that I'll be able to land something through the cold letters and follow up calls.

Here are just some of the differences between the normal stuff out there and what I believe:
Everyone else:
- will give you advice that puts you, unknowingly, on the defensive. I’ll show you how to make sure you are not on the defensive. The company should not have 100% of the power, despite that almost every job seeker allows that to happen (which is partially why your search is going nowhere).
- will tell you how to get the job. I’ll tell you that - but in a radically different manner – plus how to make sure you want the job in the first place
- will tell you what you should do and have to do. I’ll show you what you don’t need to bother with (like learning interviewing styles) and tell you why
and:
Nowhere else will you learn what the subtext of each piece of the interviewing process means When you understand the subtext - the hidden meaning of the questions and what the interviewer really means - you have more control over what's going on. When you see how they fit together and build on each other, it's easy to understand why the sequence, effectively executed, brings a natural and easy conclusion.
That puts you in control. And when the company wants you, that means you can decide whether you want to pursue it...or not. When you’re not a job chameleon, your odds of your finding your perfect job are much higher. Would you rather be in your perfect job? Or one that suffices and 6 months later has lost much of its luster?
Can you say dream job!! That's what I have right now. I worked with Judi on her program and now I am in a job that's perfect for me. Judi's knowledge on ways to find a job is above the rest. She taught me the importance of a dynamic resume, the art of networking, perseverance, what to say and what not to say to prospective employers, and how to market yourself so that you stand out above everyone else. If you follow her advice and expertise, you too will have a job you love.

The best way to see why the typical methods of finding a job don't work is to sign up for my newsletter. You'll begin to have an entirely different view of your job search. You can do that at www.FindthePerfectJob.com. The form will be immediately visible when you get there.
This is where specials, opportunities, and programs specifically for my list become available for you to take advantage of.
This spring (2011) I have a book that will shortly be under consideration for publishing. It's been available - and still is - for three years as a download on my site and has received a great deal of praise from job seekers who have read it. How to Partner With A Recruiter: Everything You Need to Know About Working With One, but Didn't Know Who to Ask. It's based on my extensive and very succesful, 22-year background as a third party recruiter.
I'm also working on a self study version and a larger class version of my very successful retained program, which I've developed with small classes of 7 people.
Because so many of you are watching your money so closely, my focus is to provide as thorough help as possible to as many people as possible for the most value and lowest cost possible. That will leave me time to do some pro bono work with individuals and programs such as Dress for Success.
Judi provides a unique perspective on job seeking. Her advice incorporates the possible viewpoints of employers/HR departments as well as the job seeker’s personal and professional goals. Most career coaches have a canned approach and try to fit any client into that formula without actually listening to determine each person’s unique situation. Also, Judi’s fees are very reasonable in this difficult economy and one can purchase different services as needed.
