Only during tax season do we feel disorganized equal intensity as the beginning of Fall, just before the holidays. Why? Because faced with deadlines we can't control, change or move, we feel even more stress as workloads increase and the pressure to fulfill social and family obligations grows to sometimes unbearable levels. So just when is the best time to "start getting organized?" Actually, that's the wrong question. The question really is, when is a good time to learn how to effectively and easily manage life. The answer?

Year after year, survey show that Americans of all ages consider the holiday season as the most stressful time of the year for them. One of the factors leading to this situation, and its persistence, is that people don’t change how to handle this season physically, time-wise and emotionally, because they don’t realize the true toll it takes on them to keep doing the same thing. The effects of stress on the individual and the people around them are strongly underestimated. Stress has a large and scientifically measured impact on thinking, productivity and health.

The fourth and last quarter of the year is often the most critical to obtain a good annual review or a promotion, because it comes right before review time, and people, including managers, tend to remember recent events better than older ones. However, Q4 is also the most stressful, fast-paced, tiring time of the year because of the holidays and the end of fiscal year for many companies. So a relatively easy way to stand out is to be more productive and calmer than everyone else during this period.

It sometimes feels like some people just have a gift for enjoying the holidays that the vast majority of people don’t have. Many of us feel like we’ll never be able to get there, and they just are lucky souls… but they aren’t.

As a leading time management expert, I’m often asked what are the top mistakes I see people make, so they can get an idea of where to start and how much these issues impact their own lives. Readers, clients and editors alike are often astounded by how quickly they can regain control and, too, ...

You have read time management and organizing books, you know what to do, you’ve even tried some of the solutions they offered and liked them, yet nothing seems to really work. What is going on? Why is it sometimes so hard to get and stay organized? The clients who come to me for help are usually having trouble for one of two reasons: 1. Biology: Yes, biology, or, more precisely, neuro-psychology, as in the way you brain is wired. While we are born equal, we also are born different, and that is true of our brains as well as our looks.

Now that the election is over, we’re finally turning our attention to the holidays. And with the holiday season a negative feedback loop puts itself in place: we feel we don’t have enough time, which creates stress, which in turn makes your think more slowly, which makes that it ...

Most people see moving as a difficult project, a painful endeavor fraught with problems, sometimes even an overwhelming project. Moving doesn’t have to be difficult, though. Yes, it is a large project that requires some organization, but I’ve moved ten times in my adult life so far, and I can guarantee you, easy, pain-free moves are possible, provided you use the following tips:

As a productivity and time management coach, I often hear “I don’t have the time to work on time management, it just takes too much darn time!” This is true if you choose a complex system such as Getting Things Done, the Franklin Covey system, and others, which require you to learn the system, then “clear the decks” to start implementing it.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Karin Stewart

Here are three of my favorite quotes:

"Don't count the days, make the days count." - Mohammed Ali

" The time to relax is - when you don't have time for it." - Sydney Harris

"I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business." - Michael J. Fox

Productivity, whether for an individual or a business, is NOT about cramming as much as possible in the time you have. It's about doing the right things, the most important things, as effectively as possible, and managing your resources for consistently maximum performance. This requires managing your intellectual, time and space resources, but also your physical and emotional ones.

The fun thing about it is, it's easy to do, and requires very little effort.
