Katie became interested in Pilates after trying a class at a gym in Chicago in 2001. Though she loved the exercises, she would have difficulty moving her neck for the next several days after every class. She decided to research Pilates and found the authentic method taught in a Certification Center/Studio in Evanston, IL. After working as a Packaging Engineer for 5 years, she decided pursue the certification program and teach Pilates. She trained under Juanita Lopez of Chicago and Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia-Santo of NYC and received her Pilates Certification in March of 2003. She has taught in Chicago and owned her own studio in Las Vegas and now Scottsdale, Arizona. Katie is committed to the original method of Pilates and showing clients the difference it can make in their bodies.

Principles of Pilates
Try utilizing one of these principles during your next session... Like most disciplines, Pilates has certain basic principles that should be followed to get the most benefit. The six principles of Pilates are Control, Concentration, Centering, Precision, Breath and Flow. Most are of no surprise to the real Pilates enthusiast; however, one or two might give you something else to think about during your next workout.

How to get started
My main piece of advice to people who want to start Pilates is to do a little research. If you have a studio in mind, check out how the instructors were certified. Then, get online and look into those programs. If there is not much about that certification online, I would hesitate to put my body in their hands! Pilates is an exercise that anyone can do...however, there is a big risk when instructors are not trained well and do not create the right program geared toward the individual. If you want to do true, classical Pilates, I highly recommend any instructor certified through Romana Kryzanowska.
