KATIE DAVIS was born in the United States and is a graduate of the University of Washington. Before the spiritual awakening, she operated aerobics studios in the Pacific Northwest. Her awakening did not arise from psychological suffering, but rather through her passion for body freedom through aerobic fitness. Since 2004, she has lived in Hawaii with her husband, Sundance Burke.

KATIE DAVIS TEACHINGS - Although Katie is not aligned with a tradition because of her spontaneous awakening, she has been influenced by the road map of Advaita, Non-duality and the Self-inquiry teachings of Adir Shankar and Ramana Maharshi. Eckhart Tolle's teachings and the clear and pragmatic manner that they present Advaita and Non-duality to the weste mind have also impacted her teachings and writing.

In 1986, Katie Davis radically and spontaneously awakened without spiritual practices or teachers. She had never head of awakening and had never been a seeker of Truth. In fact, she had no intellectual reference whatsoever for what had occurred. A former secondary school educator, businesswoman and mother of two, she simply profoundly awakened from the daytime dream of concepts, beliefs and form to fall into the reality of who we really are.

Katie devoted the following twelve years integrating the spiritual realization and in 1999 began offering talks in the form of satsang in spiritual gatherings with the message of conscious freedom and causeless joy. She now travels worldwide for public speaking, book events, satsang, intensives and silent retreats.

Katie's husband and frequent teaching partner is Sundance Burke, author of Free Spirit: A Guide to Enlightened Being. Before meeting Katie, he had similarly awakened in 1982 with his first teachers, Satoshi (Osho) and Sunyata, named the Rare Born Mystic by his friend Ramana Maharshi.

In 1998, Katie Davis became close friends with Eckhart Tolle who directly encouraged her to write her new book, Awake Joy: The Essence of Enlightenment.
