Short answer is, Yes, and No. No – because “niche” is somewhat an intellectual construct that helps us wrap our head around the marketing thing, and it is very useful. It gives us a starting point, a home base and a framework to do our research, communicate* our message and create our offerings. (* communicate, not create – that’s why it should not be the driving force in my opinion. More on that soon.)

There Is Nothing Wrong With You, Except…YOU ARE BORED! Yeah, I know, if you are anything like me, you are screaming, “That’s not me!” You have this list to build, that website to upgrade and those programs to launch. Oh, and the kids to chase. You don’t even have a moment to pop a zit, let alone sitting around toiling your thumbs wondering what to do or hmmm, feeling bored. But what if, all the things that are keeping you busy are the source of your boredom?

I am a huge fan of claiming our superpowers and marketing our uniqueness as individuals, so we can fully express our value and passion in our business, while standing out from competition. However, there is ONE thing about us not being totally “unique” can work in favor of our marketing. And that is, we are human beings marketing to other human beings who share the same underlying psychological triggers and drivers. (Even if you service pets, it’s a human that is paying you.)

Productivity hacks? Nope. Time management apps? Nope. Hiring and delegation? Nope. The core of being efficient and effective in your business starts with YOU. Your strength, your superpowers. Being efficient and effective is not about having a cookie-cutter blueprint or a me-too tactic. You need the right strategies and customized plan to give you the biggest bang for you time- and energy-bucks. The best way to make your business run efficiently is to tap into your strength, and design structures and systems to maximize the income-producing potential of your strong suits.rnr

How you BE in your business can make a big difference to how fulfilled you are in your business, and how many clients you get. I urge you to ask these questions – because they get you to consider human behavior andalignment – stuff you have to work with because trying to change them is an uphill battle you can’t win: What/Who do your ideal clients want their [coach/mentor consultant/etc.] to BE? What personality trait, value or approach inspire and motivate them so they take action and get results?

Even though I have a thing about bashing the assembly-line style some people were led to implement what they learn from business trainings, I do acknowledge the value of programs, blueprints and systems. But I have also experienced – first hand and through my clients’ jou eys – how cookie-cutter strategies and tactics can stifle our creativity and derail us from fully expressing our individuality, value and purpose through our businesses.

If you are a coach, consultant or service provider, you probably have heard time and again to “charge what you are worth.” We have also been told to raise our fees and sell premium packages so we can earn more and work less. All sound good on paper, until the rubber meets the road and you actually have to sell that premium package to a client. I have seen so many people who have gone through some trainings to design a “premium package”, only to find it collecting dust on their website.

Have you ever felt like you want to throw your hands up in the air and walk away? … or, stared at a long-ass to-do list but have NO idea what to DO? … or, just wanted to shut it all down and take a perma-vacation… from everything? Last week, I froze. My worst business nightmare came true. I created an offer, put the word out, but felt disconnected from it and couldn’t get myself to promote it anymore. I cooked up a list-building project, got the word out to a few partners and then lost steam. I tried to write a blog post, gibberish came out.r

A lot of times we are caught in codependent relationship we are not even aware of, and if it is a business or client relationship, it may be costing you dearly. A lot of us grew up conditioned to be “responsible” – so we try to be, often out of wanting to be approved or accepted, or not be made to feel guilty or shamed. Being “responsible” out of “being good” or “being approved/loved/accepted” may send you down the trap of “codependency” that will cause you not just your sanity but also potentially your business.

It’s not news that many have been complaining about how the new Facebook algorithm is screwing them up… bringing their reach down to single digit. Here is the thing – you can complain, or you can research, experiment and figure out what you can do about it. Don’t fall into the victim mentality trap because everyone is writing and bitching about it. If you can’t weather a Facebook algorithm update, you are probably building your business & marketing on quicksand and need to reconsider your strategy.

Many people are reluctant to go into selling their products, programs or services because of fears. If we can look under the hood of what’s under those fears, the awareness will help us get pass them so we can do what we need to do. What kind of selling works? Genuine selling. The kind that you don’t hide behind scripts and templates. The kind that you put yourself forward and connect with your potential clients. But our fears are making us hide… instead of making the connection so critical to getting “yes” from potential clients.

You have invested thousands of dollars in programs and trainings. You are working your butt off on your business day in and day out. You follow the instructions to a T. You do everything by the book. Sometimes you make a few sales, get a few clients… sometimes you don’t. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. You can’t figure out why, and it is frustrating the hell out of you because society has trained us to operate on the binary system of “do something –> see outcome.”

How to get started

You can find me on my website, and download the FREE "Monetize Your Truth" Mindset + Marketing Traiing Bundle.

I am a Misfit Rebel Maverick… always have been, always will be. I have cut off my limbs to fit into “other people’s boxes” and now I say “NO MORE!” for all of us.

What tripped me off and caused me to go through years of cutting off my limbs and fitting in a box wasnot knowing what is possible for me, and how I could express myself – fully and unapologetically – without ending up on the street…

Even before I started my own business, I had always be a sucker for creativity and individuality. I studied design at Yale College and went onto getting my Master’s of Architecture degree from Harvard University. I explored photography and did graphic design. When I got out of school, I followed the “traditional path” got a job at some prestigious New York City architecture firm and started my life as cubicle-dweller.

I was miserable. I was not cut out to sit at the desk from 9 – 9 executing other people’s ideas while breathing in re-cir-ed air. I sucked at my job. I got pink-slipped when the economy tanked. But I didn’t know better because “job after school” was all I was knew… so I went on to look for another job, and ended up in the online marketing agency world for 9 years. I learned a lot during that time, but my inability to sit tight at a desk executing other people’s idea became painfully apparent.

I could not do it anymore. I walked away from a 6-figure New York City ad agency job and started my health coaching business. It was a big jump – there is zero entrepreneurial blood in my family and I had no idea what I was getting into. But it was inspiring, and it suited my adventurous personality. Even with my extensive design background and experience working in creative projects, my years as an entrepreneur are definitely one of my most creative times.

I soon found out that I am very good at identifying opportunity, synthesizing information and developing creative solution. I left my health coaching business and started a successful venture to help coaches build their businesses.

However, something was bugging me. I love marketing and I was doing it quite well to promote my business. Like many entrepreneurs, I took trainings and programs to help me grow my business. The more I did so, however, the more I felt like I was being put on some factory assembly line.

I was spoon fed a bunch of information and told to execute (“just do it!” without asking – where was ME in this whole picture? I was given blueprints but because of my maverick rebel personality I could rarely “do as they say” and when things didn’t work well, I fell into the comparison trap and blamed myself for being “too creative.” Like, geez, why can’t I just be like everyone else and be happy with what I get?

My good intention of furthering my business through trainings was stifling my creativity and growth! Something was not right. I was doing what everyone else is doing and no longer felt the FIRE because my individuality was suppressed!

I missed that fire, the excitement, the drive – what got it all started. My mission, vision, and passion got diluted along the way. I realized that (1) I tasted the freedom of entrepreneurship and there is no turning back and (2) my business won’t be sustainable if I can’t fully express myself in it.

Even though my business was going well, a big part of me wanted to create something more, something innovative, something to help others approach their businesses from a different place, a different perspective.

A New Paradigm of Business Artistry

Staying within the confines of a prescribed way of doing things was oppressive. After a load of gut-spilling and soul-digging, I made a scary decision to stop listening to what others say, and listen to my own heart and guts.

I decided to take the leap and put all of me in my business. I decided that there would be no compromise. I decided to jump off the cliff while still looking for the “how to make a parachute” manual. I decided to walk away from what has been working and create something new and different.

When I took the leap, I had NO idea what the next iteration of my business is going to look like. I still don’t – not fully – maybe I never will. It is unfolding and in a way, I am enjoying the possibilities offered by the uncertainty.

Do ME in my business with INTENTIONALITY
Create MEANING; Make ART Have FUN

I am by no means “got-it-all-figured-out” and sitting pretty somewhere on a pedestal. I am knee deep in this whole process that will keep evolving. When I face plant, you will know.

During this process, I learned that mustering up the guts to jump off the cliff and let go of the “what is supposed to be” is where the real challenge is. The taking action and marketing bit happens after there is inner alignment and clarity.

The more inner work I do, the more I marry personal growth with my business, the faster both grow. This experience has been life-changing for me, and I have coined the term “Business Soulwork” for the work/ magic/ transformative journey (arrrgh, I so want to say “witchcraft!”) I do with my clients so they not just grow their business, but also let their business grow them.

Now that I have jumped off the cliff and proved that I didn’t die – I am here to invite you to take a leap. Being on the other side is very empowering and rewarding – both personally and financially.

Business Soulwork for the Maverick Entrepreneur

There is a paradigm shift in the way we do business – it’s no longer about following a blueprint, banging out some stuff so you can “get away with it.” Success does not come in a blueprint and system with no soul.

BEcoming an entrepreneur is an EXPERIENCE – it is as much the outcome as what happens and how to do YOU during the process.

People always say that having our own business is like earning a PhD in personal development. I couldn’t agree more. However, as I dig deeper into both business and personal growth, the more I see that people are saying the “spiritual” thing in one breath and when it’s time to sit down and do their business, they leave the personal work they have done aside and put on a different hat.

I am by no means the “love and lights” type – I look at things from a very different though grounded and practical perspective, and I am the “show me the money” kind of gal. I do believe that our outward results reflect our inner INTENTION, and I am not afraid to dig deep and get ugly so we can UNdo our gunk, detonate our blocks, and UNveil our truth.

My vision is to develop a synergistic relationship between the business and personal growth work to help you create an upward spiraling helix that when one improves, the other gets brought upward as well. You may say that I translate the woowoo into rainbows and unico s for your bottom line.

I want to use business – something very day-to-day and practical – as a framework forattaining our highest potential. I particularly like the fact that when you are out of alignment with your truth, your strength, your value and your vision, the misalignment is reflected in your business – often times as revenue – which makes it a perfect mirror to show you if the your actions are actually taking you closer to your fullest expression of your potential, and you truth.

So, there you have it – why I do what I do. Business Soulwork is the foundational piece for your business – the clarity to supercharge every effort you put into your business and marketing; the mindset work to stay on course and do what is in alignment with your Truth.

I want you to know that if you have purchased programs, trainings, how-tos, blueprints and systems, yet not getting results (like many of my clients when they first came to me) there is nothing wrong with you. You just need to do the inner work and get clarity – it’s like you need to know your destination before planning your travel. Imagine the tools and the information from these trainings are planes and trains… you still need to know where you want to go before you find the right means of transportation, right?

To identify you destination, you cannot look outward because no one can hand it to you on a silver platter for $297. You have to do the work, muster the GUTS, come up with the strength – to pull yourself through to the other side. And I pledge to be here with you every step of the way.

While I am not guiding my clients to find the SOUL of their businesses and writing up a storm (i.e. get back to Earth), I hang out in Santa Monica, CA, do yoga, and chase after my two little monkeys. I love yoga, cycling, traveling, True Blood and Doctor Who. In my “good old days” I had bumped around Europe, China, Tibet, Scandinavia, the Patagonia, and other desert areas of the world with my trusty Nikon FM2. Now I take this love of adventure, exploration and self-expression into my work – so I can make art have fun everyday.
