Lisa Shaw has been a spiritual counselor since 1988, specializing in telepathic animal communication since 1992. A clairvoyant reader, she has worked at various metaphysical centers and as an independent spiritual consultant. She completed her Reiki Master training in 1994 and continues serving as a teacher and counselor for individuals and groups and yes, animals, who love Reiki. Reiki has become a very popular tool to help terminally ill animals tolerate aggressive treatments such as chemotherapy. In 1994 she became a certified hypnotherapist to foster relaxation and meditation .
Lisa’s work with animals includes telepathic communication, the sharing of thoughts and feelings in “conversation” to help humans and their animal companions solve behavioral mysteries, address problems, and simply get to know each other on a deeper level. Midway through her practice, she recognized that a large number of clients sought assistance with end-of-life issues: deciding upon euthanasia, methods of aggressive treatments, and seeking the animal’s perspective on life and death. To gain wider acceptance in the “traditional” community, Lisa completed a graduate certificate program in healing and loss at St. Thomas University, where she continues advanced studies in mainstream spirituality. She received her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College and is the recipient of two Endowed Teaching Chairs at Miami Dade College, where she teaches English Composition and Literature.

Why I Chose Animals
I suppose my mother had something to do with me loving animals. From the time I was five, she was bringing home creatures small enough to go undetected in our Brooklyn apartment: turtles, tortoises, and a half-moon parrot with whom I bonded so deeply that the memories of having to give him up (I had severe allergies) still fly at me like unwelcome shards of glass. I remember crying in the back seat of the car, my father double-parked with the engine running while my mother returned the bird to the pet shop.

What is that Black Cat with Wings?
I am currently enrolled in a 16 hour Hospice volunteer training program with the intent to serve as a Reiki and pet therapy volunteer. The first six hours of training consisted of five units covering the dying process, volunteer parameters, caregiver roles, special populations, and legal and organizational procedures.
