Writer, Speaker & Radio Host
Liv Lane is an accomplished businesswoman, broadcaster and writer. She leverages her talents and background to inspire others to create their best lives.
Lane’s successful communications career has included co-hosting a national radio morning show, writing for popular web sites and computer software titles, managing public relations campaigns for General Mills' cereal and snack brands, and then co-founding and running a profitable media business, Win/Win Radio, Inc.
She accomplished these professional feats despite facing a major personal setback – a traumatic birth experience with her first child, which left her reeling. Eventually diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Lane worked with multiple therapists to overcome depression and regain her sense of self.
Though debilitating and difficult, her journey through PTSD inspired her to create a blog – One Year of Beauty – to focus on everyday beauty as a means to heal and grow. Media coverage for Lane and her web site has included stories in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Charlotte Observer, Jewish World Review and DJ mentions on hundreds of radio stations.
In 2007, Lane left corporate life behind and launched Choosing Beauty™, devoted to helping others find healing and happiness by redefining and recognizing the beauty in their midst. Lane is a sought-after inspirational writer and speaker, and also serves as co-host and associate producer of the popular radio show Get Real™, which airs on FM107.1 in Minneapolis and online as a weekly podcast. Recent guests include Wayne Dyer, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Marianne Williamson, Peter Walsh and Doreen Virtue. Meanwhile, a lush gift book based on Lane's award-winning blog will be published by Fairview Press in 2010.

I lost my blog this morning. And then I lost my mind. It all started when I decided to delete one of my two Google accounts. I didn't recall setting up the second one and never used it. So, I click-click-clicked and deleted it, confident that my other account was safe and sound. But when I went to update my One Year of Beauty blog (www.oneyearofbeauty.com), just as I've done most days for nearly three years, all that appeared was the scariest scree I've ever seen. It simply said: THIS BLOG HAS BEEN REMOVED.

I used to hate my toes. I know it sounds odd, but I was so convinced they were ugly that I wouldn’t even wear sandals during my early 20s. Truthfully, I wasn’t really fond of anyone’s feet, but I thought mine were particularly hideous. And then I had a baby. Like many infants, he fell head over heels for his tiny toes. He stared at them in awe, wiggled and kicked them, touched them and tasted them. Even I thought his itty bitty toes were undeniably adorable.

Searching for the Fountain of Youth is costing us a pretty penny. In the United States, the billions of dollars we spend annually on anti-aging products increases by nearly 9% every year. Count me in: I’ve paid for my fair share for eye creams, age-defying moisturizers, even laser treatments. But I’ve come to discover a far less expensive, much more enjoyable solution. The beauty industry has most of us convinced that if we don’t use special creams and pricey injections to ward off the aging process, we could all shrivel up like raisins in the blink of an eye.

There’s a big bowl of rocks in the middle of my kitchen table. I have collected these rocks from all over the world – beaches, mountains, parking lots – since I was a child. When I’m eating breakfast, I’ll often grab one to carry in my pocket or purse during the day. Each one has been perfectly crafted by the wind and rain, by time and God. Most collections begin with an appreciation of beauty or by tapping into a particular passion. You can rely on your collections to ground you, cheer you and remind you of wonderful places and times in your life.
