Irnrecently heard a woman say as she left one of my seminars, “They sure don’trnteach this in school!” I was thrilled. Sure, in my coaching and seminars, we spend time dotting Is and crossing Ts, but most of the time wernspend together, we work on more important things.

Like tackling those niggling (larger than that, you say?) fears of writing that wernall harbor. When I began professionally writing almost 30 years ago, I had truckloads of them. Looking, back, I’d say I learned to overcome these fears the hard way. That’s one ofrnthe reasons I love helping people learn the easy—and quicker—way. I can share some great jumpstart techniques and confidence boosters.

For others, getting started makes them stumble. And organizing the darned project—whether it’s a sales letter, blog, newsletter, article or book. With sornmany years experience, I’ve written all of the above and then some. As a result, I can help people jumpstart and organize like a pro. (Read more about my clips and clients below.)

Irnstill write books and articles, but about three years ago, I added one-on-one coaching and training seminars. I wanted to share the fruits of my life to inspire others. (And, in turn, they inspire me.) I really care about the people Irncoach and teach. When we work together, I help them see what they’re already doing right and how they can improve. And when we’re finished, they’ll not only bernable to tackle the projects in front of them, they'll have writing skills for arnlifetime. My coaching and seminar clients include the City of Seattle, Cutter & Buck, First Choice Health, Kroll Security, Seattle Chamber ofr Commerce, Seneca Real Estate Group, Sound Inpatients Physicians, T-Mobile, U.S. Small Business Administration, University of Puget Sound, University ofr Washington, and YMCA.

I bring more than 25 years of writing experience to my seminars, presentations and books. I have written for national companies such as DuPont, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Georgia Institute of Technology. My long career asrna jou alist includes feature articles for magazines and newspapers such as Lawrn& Politics, Associations Now, Southern Living, Country Living, Yoga Jou al, University of Chicago Magazine, Atlanta Jou al & Constitution, Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Washington Post (online).

I've written dozens of articles and two booksrn(Get it Write! Quick answers to common writing questions© and Get itr Write! How to writing compelling letters, e-mail, blogs or just about anything©) on the subject of business writing. Other books I’ve authored: The Highroadr Guide to the North Carolina Mountains; Asheville: A View from the Top; and The Insiders' Guide to North Carolina'sr Mountains.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Lynda McDaniel

Over the past 25 years, the quality of writing in the workplace has gone the way of the typewriter.

Writing today is like Ali vs. Frazier in the last round. It takes a jab from computers and e-mail, a hook from school systems that can’t figure out how to teach it, and arnknockout punch from fear, perhaps writing’s most formidable opponent.

Writing is the portal to our thoughts. Today, the increased use of e-mail and

text-messaging prompts people to ask, “Why go to the trouble when a quick text message will suffice?” But does it? Does text messaging expand our thinking? Build rapport and relationships? Dorna few terse words foster an essential human connection between clients and suppliers for those inevitable times when disputes arise? Writing is the portal to our thoughts.

The most formidable opponent of writing, though, isrnfear. As a business-writing coach, I’vernseen grown people quake at the thought of having to write. In turn, their fear leads to procrastination, which leads to dashed-off documents with disappointing outcomes. It doesn't have to be that way.
