The Problem With Piano Lessons
Every year, thousands of people enter piano lessons, but only a handful learn enough so they can enjoy lessons later themselves. Since we now know that anyone can learn piano--it's not 'rocket science," why would this issue still persist? Of course, on the surface, the problem appears to be a 1) ...

Performing Arts Blind Spot
Let us keep looking in spite of everything. Let us keep searching. It is indeed the best method for finding, and perhaps, thanks to our efforts, the verdict we will give such a patient tomorrow will not be the same that we must give this patient today. - Charcot, LM, February 28, 1888, ...

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Marcie Zinn
- "Everything that is learned, can be unlea ed"
- Peace of Mind is difficult to achieve in the arts, due to the very nature of performing. Performances are supposed to be error free, yet, human beings are, by nature, error prone. That dichotomy drives many out of the arts.
- Saying what you mean, telling the truth--all phrases that are similar are paramount for those in the arts. Why? because when one learns to lie and distort their own experience, one will automatically lose touch with the feelings of mastery that one must have to perform. Those feelings cannot be lost.
- Everyone is born with high standards; it is everyone's personal responsibility to him or herself to not allow others to distort that fact.
- People dislike losing for one reason; it is the information that they believe is conveyed by the loss. They believe that, just because a panel of others decided they should come in second, third, etc., that those judges are right.
- This is why children should be kept from competition; not because they are not capable, but because they cannot handle the perceived loss of the self.
- There is no grade in art.
- Top performers become top performers for a variety of reasons, but most of all, it is because they have a core belief in their own ability to do what they set out to do.
- No one is a loser, but many believe they are.
- One of the worst forms of child abuse is when a parent or caregiver makes his or her own emotions more important than the welfare of the child. Children learn to take care of the adult, rather than grow up.
- The biggest problem music teachers face is their lack of understanding of why students fail to practice. The reason? Because music teachers themselves became expert musicians because they DID practice.

How to get started
My philosophies are best seen in my writing, so visit my websites:
I typically do Arts Consultations with the following:
- music schools, academies, institutes, etc.
- individuals, such as parents (any parent, whether their child is just in lessons, or is set for a music career).
- instructors,
- performing artists
- anyone who would benefit from my services.
I work with people first in my office, but later in their own environment. In other words, I come to your rehearsal hall, place of business, etc. I then offer mentoring both online (video conferencing), email or by phone. I know that my services can be best utilized with my input after the initial consultations. My email is dr_marcie@artsnova.net; phone is 877 271 4298.
