Once upon a time - not so long ago - social media was a new and interesting alte ative for progressive marketing plans. Oh how times have changed! Today, establishing a social media presence is no longer an option for any business intent on building an online presence, and that includes authors seeking to build a fan base. But, just like every other component of your author business plan, to make the most of your efforts and prevent it from needlessly sucking all of your time and energy, you need to develop your social media strategies - and stick to them. BEGIN WITH YOUR OBJECTIVES

Every day is an opportunity to learn something or discover something or someplace. Be curious, play, go out on a limb, walk a different way to work, try a new food at dinner and keep learning and growing. ~Sandra Magsamen If you ask someone what they learned today, most people will focus immediately on work or responsibilities of the day, dismissing anything else as mere trivia and having little or no impact on their lives.

In a perfect world, each area of your life would balance out neatly. You’d work from 9 to 5 each day, take an hour-long lunch, and then come home and spend uninterrupted quality time with your family, and of course there would be plenty of time to exercise and indulge in hobbies or favorite sports. Sounds pretty good alright, but the reality is we often find ourselves coming up short on the life balance scale, and when we’re hit by one of life’s inevitable obstacles or unexpected detours it can quickly throw an already strained lifestyle into a state of stress and overwhelm.

I recently read an article that stated, according to research, despite unemployment and any number of economic and social indicators to the contrary, 80% of the population holds “unrealistic, optimistic beliefs” about their own future. It really got me to thinking about the two sides of hope. On the one hand, there is great power in hope because it brings light into dark, sad places, gives us something to hang on to, and the strength to press on for a better future.

Definition of clutter: Anything you own, possess, or do that does not ENHANCE your life on a regular basis. Most of us have a little clutter here or there, and well yes, some of us have more than a little. The most obvious toll lack of organization takes is the added stress on one’s life. While reducing stress, increasing productivity and saving time and money, are some of the best motivators I know for getting and staying organized; there’s another good reason … and that’s about more than just effectively organizing your stuff.

Sometimes through change and adversity we find our life’s purpose – the eye sheds a tear to find its focus. ~Robert Brault No matter how well we plan, from time to time life will present us with unexpected change, or an outright detour. While these challenges may initially throw us off balance, rather than a reason for frustration or despair, such times provide an opportunity for renewed determination and growth.

When was the last time you took an honest look at the life you’re in today? Does your life represent a path you’ve chosen for yourself? Is it based on your dreams and created by decisions you’ve made about how you want to live each day? Or did you simply happen into your current life as a result of circumstances. Maybe you’re living a good life, not all that you dreamed it would be, but it’s okay. After all a lot of other people have it tougher, right? There Are Two Ways to Live Your Life

Each of us at some point in our lives will experience hardship or difficult times. It can be something as simple (but nonetheless hurtful) as someone saying something negative about you, a personal rejection or someone showing harsh resentment toward you. A few of us will experience life changing hardship such as the sudden loss of a loved one, a serious illness or injury. In such situations, it may be difficult to stay positive let alone find the joy in life.

In order to live your best life, you must first believe that you have the personal power and authority to create your own life experience. Believing in your self sounds like such a fundamental concept and yet we all experience times in our lives when we suffer periods of self-doubt and uncertainty.

No question about it, Christmas is such an exciting time, filled with joy and goodwill. It’s also loaded with high expectations and the inevitable sense of urgency … shopping, decorating, activities for the kids, entertaining and s-t-r-e-s-s. No matter how aware we are that it's coming, and try to avoid it, holiday stress happens just like clockwork, because the triggers are always the same … too many commitments, too much shopping and preparation to do, end of year work responsibilities, crowded stores and family gatherings.

As most new authors realize all too soon, working out how to sell your eBook in a highly competitive market, may well be even more intimidating than the book writing itself. Of course the Internet contains a seemingly endless array of free information, not to mention a surplus of “must do” advice. The problem is a lot of time can be wasted attempting to work your way through that information, determining what’s relevant and what’s not, and then creating some sort of organized system to use it all.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Marquita Herald

I love working with smart, independent people who are ready and willing to do the work to create their own life experience!

I collect quotes, and use them often in my writing. Following are four of my favorites:

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. ~Jon Krakauer

For your born writer, nothing is so healing as the realization that she has come upon just the right word. ~Catherine Drinker Bowen

To be nobody-but-yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. ~e. e. cummings

Someone once said that it's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not. Self-trust is what gets you to push your limits and take risks. Of the many secrets to success, self-trust and self confidence are foremost. ~Unknown Author

Don’t be afraid that something happens to you. Be afraid that nothing happens to you. Nothing noteworthy or exciting or breathtaking. I’m more afraid of a life where nothing extraordinary ever happens. I am more afraid of putting my dreams on a shelf and later realizing that I am too jaded or too tired to live them. ~We Are Sole Sisters

How to get started

You are as powerful as you allow yourself to be … you can choose your own thoughts, reactions and emotions to every event in your lives.

I write to inspire readers to reach a little beyond what's comfortable to achieve goals that matter ... refuse to accept simply "getting along" in life out of fear or limiting beliefs ... cultivate the skills to become stronger and more resilient ... learn to master the self-motivation skills that will keep you energized and moving forward ... make the choices each day that will over time create the fulfilling life you really want for yourself ... and to choose happiness, each and every day.
