Melanie McGhee, L.C.S.W. is an award-winning author, relationship expert, psychotherapist and spiritual coach. She is also the founder of Abhimukti Yoga Coaches - providing coaches training to yoga teachers.
For more than 25 years, she has been helping people cultivate rich relationships with themselves, others and Life. A long-time yoga practitioner and meditator, Melanie sees relationship as one of Life’s perfect practice spaces for experiencing yoga. Melanie's experiences and training led her to create a coaches training for yoga teachers. Her understanding of the sanskrit term yoga is that it means union with the Divine in yourself, others and Life. This trip landed smack dab in the middle of several stressors that aren't part of my usual routines; the car was having trouble, house repairs from storm damage were underway and some critters that were supposed to live outside were making their homes in my home. Dancing With Time
“Come out of the circle of time, and into the circle of love.” ~ Rumi As this month draws to a close, I’m sitting cozy in my office, three large dogs sacked out on the floor around me, while sheets of ice fall from the sky. Moments of Transcendent Awareness
The sun streamed through the late southern summer afte oon in golden rays. And, there I stood in front of my grandmother’s mirror. It seemed huge and somehow magical to me. This was not the first time I stood in front of that mirror. My grandmother often placed me in front of that mirror and told me that it was magic. I just had to look long enough to spot the magic. Whenever I was upset about something or I did something wrong, she would stand me in front of that mirror and say, “You just stand there and look at yourself until you see God looking back. Then come talk to me.”r

Immerse Yourself in the Ocean of the Heart
The yogi who is established in a steady posture easily becomes immersed in the ocean of the heart.rn ~ Shiva Sutra 3.16 As I reflect on this sutra, what is most compelling to me is the phrase “ocean of the heart.” As we all know, the ocean can be still and smooth as a mirror reflecting the thousands of tiny diamond lights of the sun. Or, it can be swirling with tumultuous waves reflecting a sky of darkened clouds. In the same way, the heart can be calm and serene or it can flutter with anger and anxiety.r

As a longtime meditator, I founded Illumined Life, LLC to help people build better relationships with themselves, others and God. I aim to be respectfully adept in supporting my clients release the emotional and cognitive blocks that keep them from living fully. I am committed to self-acceptance, helping people learn to experience themselves without the inhibition of self judgment, self evaluation and self criticism. For I see such acceptance as a means to more fully connect with the divine in one’s self and in others.
I’ve been lucky to have exceptional teachers. They have helped me develop my communication skills, especially teaching me to listen deeply and with compassion. Through the grace of such teachers, I’ve found and cultivated the insight and intuition that resides in each of us. Using skill and insightful listening, I am committed to helping people free themselves of emotional pain and supporting them as they craft richly fulfilling lives.
For more than 20 years, I have been helping people engage more fully in life, attain their goals and reach their potential in what I hope to be an atmosphere of unconditional acceptance and respect. In addition to maintaing my psychotherapy and coaching practice, I have worked with individuals and groups in boardrooms, the deep wilde ess and a variety of retreat sites. Among the organizations I have served are NASA, Methodist Medical Center, Baptist Hospital, Tennessee Valley Authority, Michigan Unemployment, the SYDA Foundation and the US Army.
