Melanie Solomon is the author of the newly released book, the 2nd Edition of "AA Not The Only Way-- Your One Stop Resource Guide To 12-Step Alte atives," which is now in its 2nd Edition and an Amazon.com Bestseller. After a twelve-year battle with addiction to prescription pills-- including a vicious cycle of recovery-rehabs-sober livings- 12-step programs-relapse--and then back all over again- she is now living a normal, successful life. Her book has helped not only people with substance abuse problems, but many professionals in the field, who were unaware of all of the options available until they read this book. They are now better able to really help their clients.
A full-time writer and lecturer, Ms. Solomon has taught at the Huntington Beach School District’s Drug and Alcohol Program and has led a workshop at The Learning Annex in Califo ia. She graduated from the University of Michigan, with a B.A. in Psychology with honors. While making Phi Beta Kappa, she also volunteered at a nearby Women’s Center,counseling and placing abused and/orchemically addicted women into safe facilities.
Her jobs have varied, from tutoring, investment analyst, law office assistant, and telemarketer, to presently being a full time author. In addition, she now works for a publishing company, Outskirts Press, Inc.,helping authors market their books.

My general philosophy in the field of addiction is that there are MANY ways to get better, and people have the RIGHT to know about all of their options. Alcoholics Anonymous is the most recommended "treatment" and the most well known. Unfortunately, it does not work for most people. Still, in the U.S., 93-97% of the treatment programs are 12-step based! It is time to stop living in the dark ages and start looking at the research that has been going on for the past four decades. It has become IMPERATIVE that professionals in the field become aware about the alte atives that are now out there so they can provide their clients with real help.
