"No man of today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to supply his system with the mineral salts he requires for perfect health, because his stomach isn’t big enough to hold them! And we are running to big stomachs. No longer does a balanced and fully nourishing diet consist merely of so many calories or certain vitamins or a fixed proportion of starches, proteins, and carbohydrates. We now know that it must contain, in addition, something like a score of mineral salts.

Scientists have found that the nutrients needed to fight different types of cancer are very similar. Their research shows that the same supplement regimen can be used to treat most cancers since orthomolecular treatments for cancer don't focus on attacking cancer tissues. Instead, they attempt to boost our immune system to fight cancerous growths and tumors. Orthomolecular treatment involves a thorough nutrient program in combination with a balanced diet designed to boost the body's immune system. Intravenous vitami C is vital to this process.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for humans in industrialized nations. However, the disease is virtually nonexistent in most animals. According to Dr. Matthias Rath, author of Eradicating Heart Disease, it isn’t impossible for animals to get heart disease, but it is a very rare occurrence, regardless of the animal’s diet, activity level, or other factors.

Depression is at epidemic levels. In the United States, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) reports that major depression is the most prevalent mood disorder today, affecting 17 percent of the population at least once in their lifetime. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that one in ten people suffer with major or other types of depression at any given time. However, research from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation indicates that this number may be much higher because, for instance, men are far less likely to report their depression.

Orthomolecular medicine, according to two-time Nobel prizewinner Dr. Linus Pauling, is the process of preserving good health and preventing disease by varying the concentration of substances in the body at the molecular level, such as minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and essential fatty acids. One branch of orthomolecular medicine, orthomolecular psychiatry, rejects the standard psychiatric model and instead focuses on biochemical causes of mental disorders.

In 1911, a Swiss psychiatrist named Eigen Bleuler was the first to describe autism as a medical disorder. However, he was talking about adults, and the condition he was describing is now known as schizophrenia. Thirty years later, in 1943, Dr. Leo Kanner of Johns Hopkins University redefined autism to what it now means. Dr. Kanner based his evaluation on 6 years of observing the behavior of 11 children with the condition. According to his reports, all of the children had withdrawn from human contact and displayed very similar behaviors.

Social support can be defined as the emotional comfort and security given to us by friends, relatives, coworkers, and others. It is the contentment we feel from being a part of a community that loves us and cares for us, and that will help us through difficult situations in our lives.

The support of friends, family, and our community has been shown to extend our lives, lower our risk of infection, and help us recover from conditions such as heart disease and high blood pressure more quickly and effectively. A study conducted in 2001 by Beverly H. Brummett, Ph.D. and colleagues, published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, showed that the survival rate for people with coronary artery disease was much higher if they had a support network.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Michael Locklear

In 1986, Michael cofounded The Global Peace Project in conjunction with Lois Roeder, Sc.D., a highly respected nutritionist from the University of Maryland and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He was elected President of the organization and charged with the task of developing a new system of farming that would allow people living in Third World and developing nations to alleviate poverty and improve their health.

Three years into their research, in 1989, the United Nations reported that the world had lost nearly eighty percent of its topsoil. This meant that the minerals and other nutrients in soil had been leeched out and represented the single greatest threat to humanity. Topsoil loss could only result in widespread malnutrition.

The Global Peace Project redirected its focus to soil reconstruction as a foundation for its agricultural research. However, as the years passed, Michael and his team began to realize that the way we think was the real cause behind war, poverty, ignorance, human rights abuses, and environmental destruction. It became clear that they had to address human consciousness as a baseline if they were to have any success in establishing a foundation for global peace, which means the absence of distress in any form.

The Global Peace Project continued its research under this new, broader mandate until 2006, when they completed the development of their advanced farming system. In the end, they created a system that could produce ten times as much food on one acre as modern farmers and the food would be the most nutritious food humans anywhere had seen in nearly ten thousand years. They achieved this miraculous feat by replacing minerals and microorganisms that had been missing in soil since shortly after the advance of farming many thousands of years ago.

The Total Health philosophy has come about as a result of all of the informatio Michael uncovered on the way to creating this new farming system.
