Today I gardened in the rain; one of those beautiful west coast misty rains which leaves everything drenched in life giving moisture. Everything is saturated even the colors, taken to deeper hues by the gray overcast. You feel gently hugged and cocooned by the close in day. My task: to make zucchini mounds, these look like miniature volcanoes erupting in my garden beds, in which to plant my four little treasures. I prepared each mount with a bag full of sheep manure, a few shovels of compost full of wriggling worms and some of the soil out of the bed wherer

“It is only by acknowledging that you have created everything up until now that you can take charge of creating the future you want.” From: W Clement Stone, from The Success Principle by Jack Canfield That is one of my all time favorite quotes for it is the stepping stone from your life now, to the unlimited potential of your future. Recognizing the truth: that you are a creative genius, and that you were the one to engineer your current circumstances, allows you to perfect that genius by your own conscious design.

I ask you to believe one thing, as I do, that trees can talk, from that one belief all else is possible. “I am free,” said the Wind to the Willow. “Free from what,” the Willow asked. “Noooooo,” blew the Wind, “not free from, free to be.” “I just want freedom from my roots, then I could tramp across that field, to that rich fertile spot right there.” The Willow pointed a branch with the help of the wind. “Nooooooo, “ said the Wind again, “ you want to be free to move to that spot.” “I hardly see the difference,” said the Willow, who is known to be a bit weepy.

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. Source: e.e. cummings Who are we really? Who am I? What is my true self? Is it even important for me to understand who I am? The whole question of identity is riddled with a mine field of confusion, misinformation and vicious labeling, leaving individuals like you and I to find our way amid the perils of conformity and painful desires to belong. So how do you go about becoming who you really are? How do you separate the false from the true?

Communication is the most important skill in life. We spend most of our waking hours communicating. But consider this: You’ve spent years learning how to read and write, years learning how to speak. But what about listening? What training or education have you had that enables you to listen so that you really, deeply understand another human being from that individual’s own frame of reference? The other day I sat at my desk at work looking at all the files saved on my desktop and realized that finding the time to delete files that no longer served any purpose would take some dedicated time and effort on my part. Meanwhile saving files is a snap. Just click save, and voila, another file finds immortal life in the electronic heart of my computer.

I’ve been a self-development junkie from the time I read “How to Think like Leonardo da Vinci” by Michael J Gelb over eight years ago. The book taught me the importance of keeping a journal which I have been doing consistently for at least 8 years now. From that springboard I dove into the self-growth ocean exploring all the flora and fauna with enthusiasm and delight. I took a tough online course called Tools to Life and graduated much to my surprise about five months later...surprised because my history at completing projects was notoriously bad.

When I talk to people about starting a daily practice just about the first objectio I encounter is: "I don't have time to do that." For someone just beginning their search for self-improvement and growth that is a valid argument. For anyone who wants to find success, however they might define it, self-improvement is critical to that success. But how do you get to a point where you are committed to a morning practice that could take from and hour to two hours and an evening practice to wrap up the day, when you have yet to experience the benefits of that time sacrifice?

Recently I needed to travel into the beautiful city of Vancouver British Columbia on business. Since these where to be all day sessions I took the beautiful Westcoast Express into the city. The train runs along the Fraser River all the way into the city. While sitting watching the river roll by, I recorded these thoughts I would like to share with you today.

Let me start with a quote from Montaigne:Rejoice in the things that are present; all else is beyond thee. For me at least, and I suspect for you, it is easier to understand how being pulled back into the past robs us of this moment, than to understand how our mad dash into the future can compromise us even more.
