Many of us desire the American dream; having our own home, a white picket fence, a gorgeous wife, 2.5 kids, and plenty of cash in the bank. Sounds great, right? Not exactly. Are we misrepresenting God’s love?
How many times have you heard preachers and well meaning Christians tell you how much God loves you? Of course in one sense, this is true. John 3:16 tells us that God loves sinners and gave his Son, Jesus Christ, as proof of that love. Without Jesus, we would all be headed to hell. However, the scriptures also point to God’s hatred and wrath. For example Psalm 5:5-6 reads, “Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil. Many of us fear satan and what he can do to us. As we read the story of Job we shiver and tremble at what Job had to go through and we pray that such challenges would not be our portion. However, as difficult and testing as Job’s troubles were, Jesus said in Luke 12:5,”Fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear him!” Who was Jesus referring to?

Your Worst Life Now!
If Heaven is glorious, perfect, and complete, a place of ete al joy, peace, and love, we must then be living our worst life now! Anything short of perfection is imperfect. As Christians, no matter how great our life is here on Earth, we must know that this is only a small measure to what our lives will be in Heaven. By the same token no matter how troubled and difficult our lives are on Earth we must also know that this is as bad as it will get. In Heaven we will be free from all our troubles. If this is the case, why then are many of us living in this life as though we were here forever?
