At this time of year many of us begin a process of reflecting on the past year and creating intentions for the coming new year. It’s a natural process based on our innate desire to become who we are meant to be in this life. As I begin this process, it strikes me that we are in a constant state of creating, evaluating, re-creating throughout our entire life.

On our jou ey toward greater awareness, the second step is about finding our identity. At some point in our life, for most of us, there comes a time when we ask the question, "Who am I?" It may not come to us just like that, but it comes in some form or another. The first step in the process of becoming more aware of the answer to that question is about determining who we are not! We discover that we are not defined by what we do. This is often times a reflection of Ego. It is not 100% Ego, but most of us come to a point where too much of what we do is a reflection of Ego.

The third step on the path to becoming all that you are in this life, is realizing we are all one! I don’t just mean this in the way you might think. Realizing something is the act of making it real or manifesting it in your life. So, not only is this about understanding that we are all one, but this is also about manifesting the concept that we are all one into your physical reality. It is important to understand the evolution of this process and so I will review a bit of what I have said previously. The first step was letting go of ego.

With all the turmoil in the world it’s very easy to get off track or out of balance with one’s life. The truth is, even when there’s little turmoil, it’s still easy to become out of touch with what’s really important in one’s life. So, when experiencing this disconnectedness, how does one get back on track? Or, better yet, how does one keep themselves on track in the face of all the turmoil and stress in the world?

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Pat Benage

I've recently finished an eBook entitled Cure Your Depression: 7 Steps to Peace, Love and Joy! The book chronicles my own struggle with depression and how I overcame it. Not only have I cured my depression, but I actually live a life full of joy and peace and love! This is something I can help you overcome in your own life as well.

I suffered with depression for many years culminating in an attempt to end my own life about 10 years ago. After that bottom moment I decided to live and began the process of ridding myself of depression. It took me a few years to get through these steps, but that's because I didn't have a map or any tools or anyone to show me the way.

I'm here now to share my experiences so that they might benefit in a way that helps you find your own path to healing. My process came from my work to overcome depression, but the same steps may be applied to any personal crisis. Whether you're dealing with depression, stress, anxiety, or some other issue that you are having difficulty working through, this process will walk you through healing your own life.

Here are the steps to healing as I see them.

  1. Get to know your true self.
  2. Accept the world, including you, just as it is.
  3. Trust Life, God, Source, Universe, Spirit, Self. (Whatever you choose to call it)
  4. Live consciously.
  5. Live honestly.
  6. Share yourself with others.
  7. Love unconditionally.

I believe anyone who truly follows these steps can overcome anything they currently perceive to be negative in their lives. Is this the only way to do it? Of course not! This is just the way I found to beat not only depression in my life, but to create a new me that can handle anything life brings my way. These steps are, I believe, an essential part of our process of becoming who we wish to be in this life. These are not simply meant for those who are struggling in life, but for anyone who wishes to attain a higher state of being.

How to get started

Basically, my philosophy is to live consciously and be open to the possibilities life has to offer. I do my best to see each person as a spiritual being full of love and light. I shine my light and in doing so I hope to spark that light in others so they might know their true nature!

I love this quote from Marianne Williamson:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
