Harold Whitman wrote: "Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." Do you know what makes you come alive?

Do you find yourself running from place to place and task to task like a worker on an assembly line? Are you someone who knows what it is like to have a feeling of success and achievement but all that feels a distant memory (even if, say you achieved something last week!?) Are you somewhere that at best your life and career is feeling "eh, just alright" or worse it may even be sucking the life out of you?

Last weekend I was in Tampa, Florida for the first of several in-person events as part of a year long EnergyRich® Elite Mastermind Group I joined. The group and the event was unbelievably spectacular and I felt it was a great time to write a bit about the benefits of working with someone (or a facilitated group) who can be a coach and mentor to you along your journey. First let me share with you that I did not take joining this group lightly. It is the most significant investment of time and money I have made to a program in my life (and that's saying something).

Have you ever felt deep inside like you know exactly what you want and need to do for your own highest good, but yet don’t do it? Perhaps you feel an undercurrent of guilt or that you "shouldn’t" or wonder "what will people think?"? Yet, if at that same moment some big fairy godmother came by and gave you permission, you would jump at it in a heartbeat. Well, I’m here to tell you that there’s no fairy godmother, and there is no mythical authority on high that is going to drop by and bestow this permission on you. You need to give yourself permission.

For you - personally - what would you consider a well-lived, full life? Do you know? Or, do you avoid the question altogether and just shuffle through the day to day? This week as I attended my grandmother’s funeral I was reminded once again of how quickly even 89 years can go by. And of course none of us know if we have another 80 years ahead of us or another 8 minutes. So, how do you want to be remembered? What do you want your life to have stood for? Perhaps the ultimate "begin with the end in mind" exercise is the one I am going to share with you today.

I was listening to Michael Port’s book "Beyond Booked Solid" today en route to a meeting. He made one statement that truly sums up my philosophy. As he was talking about how to boost your income, streamline your processes, and take your business to the next level he said "The real bottom line is your life." Meaning, the real bottom line when it comes to everything you do is your life - how you experience your days, the relationships you have, and your ability to truly enjoy living.

Do you find yourself just trying to hang on and get through the recession? Perhaps you are waiting for things to turn around or something to happen (business partner make a decision, new clients to show up, reorganization at a job to work itself out) before you move forward? If so, you’re not alone. Many people are playing the "hang in there" and waiting game. But here’s the thing - when you do that, you’re living life like the cat on an old poster of mine. The one where the cat is hanging from a tree branch by one paw and the caption says "Hang in there Baby".

We all have habits, some good, some bad. Or shall I say, some that move us forward toward an inspiring future and others that keep us stuck in the past. Habits are where the intersection between life and business becomes even more blurry than usual (and those of you that read me regularly know I have a pretty expanded concept of how life and business intersect). This is why I wanted to share my most powerful daily habits with you.

The workplace can be a stressful place. Between personality differences, “one-size-fits-all” working environments (think: introverts hate open office floor plans), and having to always “do more with less” while wondering if your job is really secure, work can pile on stress like no other. According to the article “Making a Business Case for Mindfulness”: “Stress in the workplace is at epidemic levels, costing businesses an estimated $2,800 per employee every year.” Yet there truly are ways to find balance and peace along the journey.

Go ahead, there’s no wind-up necessary, you can simply answer the question for yourself: "How confident do you feel?" What happens in your body as you answer this? Do you feel some butterflies in your stomach or does your heart skip a few beats? Experience a little hesitancy in your voice? Perhaps you aren’t sure how to answer because you feel totally confident in one area of your life or business but riddled with doubt in another? If so, you’re not alone. Most people have some sort of visceral reaction to it. Why?

This week I thought about this question quite a bit. As a love of nature and especially animals, I was struck with a conflict. As I was mowing the lawn on Monday I startled a sick and injured robin. It hobbled toward a tree and just sat there. I watched this poor thing sit there scared and hop back and forth attempting to fly, fluttering into the neighbor’s fence, and basically sitting still with its head drooped. It just pained me to no end to watch this. I thought for sure by morning it would have died. In fact I even dug a mini grave for it in anticipation.

Can you answer that question quickly and with a nice long list? If you can’t you’re not alone. So many people really struggle with this question. If I asked you the questio "What do you dislike about yourself?" Would the answers flow freely and make a long list? If so, again, you have lots of company. What got me thinking about this topic again was our monthly full moon gathering.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Paula Gregorowicz

Always be a first-rate version of yourself; instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.
- Judy Garland

"How you spend your time defines who you are."
-Oprah Winfrey

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening
that is translated through you into action. And because
there is only one you in all time, this expression is unique.
And if you block it, it will never exist through any other
medium… the world will not have it. It is not your
business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable,
nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your
business to keep yours clearly and directly, to keep the
channel open."
-Martha Graham

"Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling five balls in the
air. You name them - work, family, health, friends, and spirit - and
you're keeping all these in the air. You will soon understand that
work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the
other four balls - family, health, friends, and spirit are made of
glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed,
marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the
same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life. "
- Brian Dyson, CEO of Coca Cola Enterprises from 1959-1994
